Keeping BIlls As Low As Possible

Image
SCE takes every opportunity to pass cost savings onto our customers. We work to find the most effective and lowest-cost approaches to providing every customer with the power they need.

For 2026, SCE projects average rates will remain flat or slightly decline through October, although individual rate changes may be higher or lower than average.

Longer term, we project that on average, our rates will grow in line with or below inflation through 2029, as they did for about 30 years prior to 2020.

From 2020-24, SCE’s rate growth outpaced inflation, due in part to expanded wildfire-related investments.

Making Every Dollar Count

For every dollar SCE receives from customers, 44 cents* goes directly to pay for the electricity delivered — with no markup or profit. About 43 cents* (38 cents for distribution, 5 cents for transmission) is used to maintain and repair the power grid and to provide customer care, such as:

  • Making the electric grid safer for everyone — the public, first responders and workers
  • Reduce outages and safely restore power faster
  • Strengthen the grid to handle extreme weather events

Mandated funding of public purpose programs accounts for 3 cents.* Costs of state policies, such as reducing wildfire risk and subsidies for solar customers, are also embedded in existing power generation and delivery charges.

*Together, these costs can make up more than a third of customers’ bills, according to a recent study by Blue Sky Consulting Group (available at raterealities.com).
This infographic shows how much of each customer dollar received by SCE is used to safely deliver electric service and implement mandated state policies.

Base Services Charge

The Base Services Charge helps cover the fixed costs of maintaining the electricity grid that serves your home or business. This billing change separates grid costs from energy use, which may lower per-kilowatt-hour rates and supports essential state energy programs.
