A Satellite Constellation Designed for ATM
Space-based VHF Data & Voice Communications and ADS-B
Startical
The first-ever VHF Voice & Data communication between aircraft and air traffic controller via satellite
Startical has made history by enabling, for the first time ever, real-time VHF voice and data communications from space, connecting pilots flying over oceanic regions with air traffic controllers like never before.
With two demonstrator satellites in orbit, Startical is laying the foundation for its future constellation, which will include more than 200 low-Earth orbit satellites to provide global VHF and ADS-B coverage, enabling a new era of connectivity in aviation.
Startical has become the first company to demonstrate the feasibility of space-based VHF communications fully compatible with existing avionics, paving the way for continuous coverage and more efficient air traffic management worldwide.
Our satellites
IOD-1 launched in March 2025
Startical’s first satellite, developed and launched as part of the European-funded ECHOES project, achieved a global milestone: it performed the world’s first VHF voice and data link from space.

IOD-2 launched in June 2025
With IOD-2, Startical is intensifying the tests to demonstrate robust, real-time aeronautical communications and surveillance services via satellite.
More on the way
Safer skies, together
Global collaboration
The real-time trials are carried out in close collaboration with several air navigation service providers, airlines, communication service providers, and other supporters.
The benefits of expanding VHF & ADS-B coverage globally
Increased Efficiency & Capacity
Reduces aircraft separation, enhancing operational efficiency and increasing overall air traffic management capacity.
No Changes in Avionics
Fully compatible with existing onboard and ground systems. No modifications to avionics or additional training required for pilots or controllers.
Enhanced
SafetyContinuously monitors aircraft positions and maintains permanent connectivity, strengthening situational awareness, punctuality, and flight predictability.
Lower CO₂ Footprint
Enables the use of optimal routes, reducing flight times and fuel consumption, thereby contributing to a more environmentally efficient aviation.
