These days, we have noticed forces around us drawing lines around what art is acceptable and what is not. Government agencies, government leaders, public institutions, they all favor art that supports them.
Target Margin makes the OTHER kind of art. Art that is challenging, subversive, deviant. Art for “the strange, the slant, the queer.” Art that must be excluded, deported, kept out of sight, or simply incinerated. The Nazis called it DEGENERATE.
Our anchor production THIS IS REAL is inspired by the work of Jean Genet. Created by David Herskovits and a cohort of artists, this new work brings the transgressive spirit of Genet to life for America in 2026. At The Doxsee, March 2026.
This season we brought back THE TARGET MARGIN LABORATORY for the first time since the pandemic. TMT Artists created new performance, art, music, and discussion. For three weeks in September and October, we offered a Festival of new work, exploring Degenerate Art Now.
TMT HOSTS program welcomes a small number of productions through the year by artists who share our adventurous DIY spirit. Our SPACE program supports artists with 1,000 hours of free studio use, offered to independent artists on a first-come basis. Our INSTITUTE gathers a cohort of mid-career artists seeking to expand their practice. TMT YOUNG ARTISTS, our work with elementary schoolers is growing. Our COMMUNITY CAFÉS series has also grown. These informal gatherings unify and celebrate the many groups of people in our community.
