In the northern part of South Holland, the use of existing gas-fired power stations and combined heat and power plants at horticultural businesses will remain necessary in the coming years to prevent overloading of the electricity grid. This is evident from research published today that we conducted in collaboration with regional network operators Stedin and Liander.

Europe’s electricity system is undergoing rapid transformation. The rise of solar and wind power, energy storage solutions, and emerging large-scale consumers like data centres and electrolysers are reshaping how the grid behaves. To keep up with this pace of change, the technical rules that define how these assets connect to the grid — the European Connection Network Codes (CNCs) — must also evolve.

Call for coordinated European actions for a more resilient grid 

In almost all EU Member States and Norway, markets started on 30 September to use 15 minutes as the shortest period for electricity trading. Between EU countries and trading zones, 15 minutes now applies to all short-term trading: with delivery on the same day or after one day.

TenneT Germany has appointed Ina Kamps to the Executive Board with effect from 1 December 2025. As Chief Operating Officer (COO), she will oversee TenneT Germany's operational activities, with a particular focus on grid expansion, both onshore and offshore, as well as grid maintenance and safety.

12 Offshore TSOs are striving for integrated offshore grid to strengthen European energy independence

TenneT has successfully supported the transition of the Scandinavian countries to a 15-minute Market Time Unit (MTU) including the Dutch ‘Nordic external borders’. This milestone, part of the Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC), contributes to more efficient electricity trading and a more stable grid balance within the European energy system. The implementation required months of intensive testing and close cooperation with Energinet in Denmark and Statnett in Norway.

TenneT supports Nordic Region to 15-minute MTU

Dutch Climate and Green Growth Minister Sophie Hermans has included a new electricity interconnector between the Netherlands and the UK in the latest Offshore Wind Energy Development Framework. This interconnector, LionLink, will be realised through the Nederwiek 3 offshore grid project. TenneT may now make investments for LionLink, the first direct-current hybrid interconnector. This project connects the Dutch offshore grid connection of wind farm Nederwiek 3 to both the Dutch and the UK onshore high-voltage grid. The connection can also be used as an additional high-voltage link to exchange electricity between the countries. LionLink is being realised in close cooperation with UK partner National Grid Ventures (NGV).
