“The medium is the message” was famously coined by the philosopher, Marshal McLuhan. The Think Medium team combines personalization of content for healthcare leaders with multiple mediums to create actionable and efficiently applied insights.
Dr. Gary Bisbee’s leadership positions have spanned Wall Street, academia, health policy and entrepreneurial ventures. He is Founder, Chairman and CEO of Think Medium, which explores learning and leadership through peer-to-peer conversations.
He is a frequent speaker and facilitator for executives and boards of directors. Gary is well published and he most recently co-authored, n=1: How the Uniqueness of Each Individual is Transforming Healthcare. His weekly video/audio podcast, The Gary Bisbee Show, pursues his interests in learning and leadership and features guests of significant accomplishment.
He has been a founder or leader of five venture companies. Most recently, he was Co-founder, Chairman and CEO of The Health Management Academy. He has been a member of multiple public and not-for-profit boards, and he currently sits on four boards, including Cerner Corporation. He is an advisor to investment funds.
Gary holds an M.B.A. in finance and healthcare from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in chronic disease epidemiology from Yale University, where his dissertation was part of the development of DRGs. His undergraduate degree is from North Central College.
Dr. Sanjula Jain is a health services researcher and strategic advisor working with C-suite and senior leadership teams of healthcare organizations including Fortune 500 pharmaceutical and medical device companies, health systems, and venture-backed startups. She is passionate about leveraging data-driven insights to accelerate transformation across the health economy. Sanjula is Co-founder of Think Medium, which personalizes insights for healthcare leaders, and SVP of Market Strategy and Chief Research Office at Trilliant Health. She also serves on the Faculty of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Division of Clinical Informatics.
Sanjula has previously served in executive roles in research and advisory services, governance education and value acceleration at The Health Management Academy and Emory Healthcare. Her research has been published in academic journals such as Health Affairs, JAMA, The American Journal of Managed Care, and The Journal of Healthcare Management and leading industry publications such as Modern Healthcare and The American Hospital Association’s Market Scan.
She has an undergraduate degree from Rice University and a doctorate degree from Emory University. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Rice University and a Ph.D. in Health Services Research & Health Policy, with a concentration in Economics, from Emory University.
Lan is a long-standing organizational development expert with nearly 20 years of leading non-profit and investor-owned organizations.
Lan is an experienced strategic advisor for non-profit organizations, including start-ups, spin-offs of independent companies from fiscal sponsors, and mature organizations.
She began her career in commercial banking and private education at Sidwell Friends School. At The Health Management Academy, she held administrative positions in an early stage, fast growth, investor-owned company that tripled in revenue and employees over five years. She serves as Chief Operating Officer for Think Medium, a multi-media think tank focus on healthcare leadership.
Lan holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Maryland. Her Bachelor’s degree is also from the University of Maryland in Business Law and Public Policy.
Michael is Think Medium’s Marketing/Communications fellow. Throughout his professional career he has been able to work with multiple different podcasts and non-profits giving his creative skills and analytical mindset. On open days Michael loves to spend his time writing/playing music and being with his dog.
Faith Connors is Think Medium’s Marketing & Communications Associate. She received her B.A. in English Literature and Writing before pursuing her career in copywriting and content creation. In her downtime, you can find her reading, hiking, or whipping up a new recipe in the kitchen.
Casey is a former Professor of English who is launching a second career with Think Medium. His Ph.D. in Literature focused on ethics and aesthetics, and he has nurtured a life-long love of Leadership by studying outstanding historical figures. He has taught courses on American and World Literature, as well as numerous courses on Writing. He maintains an interest in the power of narration to shape consciousness and to motivate positive action. Happily married for fifteen years, and the proud father of three children, Casey is interested in nutrition, exercise, and mental fitness. He enjoys hiking and swimming in the ocean at every opportunity.
Gary Bisbee IV is a rising third grader who is an excellent student, and as his granddad’s oldest grandchild, has assumed the role of the ‘grandchildren’s spokesperson.’ He has demonstrated early proficiency in sales, particularly if acquiring technology is involved. G4, as he is lovingly known, has shown signs of being a facile and engaging host while interviewing his granddad.
Lucy Bisbee is the newest entrant in the Bisbee grandchild podcasting derby. However, her initial interest and competence is in gymnastics where her persistence and performance in class has been impressive. She has shown early signs of interest in podcasting, having become quite familiar with the podcasting studio. Her word production is increasing exponentially and will soon approach her granddad’s.
Noelle Bisbee is five years younger than her brother and has adopted the attitude that whatever is good for him, is good for her. She is an award winner in her preschool. She is a bit young to assess potential interest in podcasting but her granddad is holding open all options. Her interest in people and building relationships will stand her in good stead if she expands her podcasting interests.
