FIRST WORLD CONGRESS OF SCIENCE & FACTUAL PRODUCERS TO BE HELD IN SOUTH AMERICA:

RIO DE JANEIRO CHOSEN FOR HOST CITY FOR 2025

World Congress of Science and Factual Producers (WCSFP) is thrilled to announce Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as the host city for its 33rd edition, taking place from 8-11 December 2025. Set to become the second largest economy of connected TV, and a top-three investor in digital content creation globally, Brazil’s staggering annual growth in the content market brings incredible opportunities to the factual community worldwide.

WCSFP 2025 is proudly hosted by the Rio Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation, with support from Rio de Janeiro’s Mayor’s Office, and participation from members of the local media, culture and scientific community, including Grifa Filmes, Instituto Serrapilheira, LatAm Content Meeting, Rio Market, TV Brasil and more. This marks the first-ever WCSFP held in South America – a strategic move aligned with WCSFP’s mission to expand into emerging markets and meet the evolving demands of the global media landscape.

WCSFP 2025 will push the boundaries to explore the trends that are reshaping distribution, digital interactivity, audience engagement, and storytelling itself. WCSFP will spotlight innovation in new markets, formats, and funding models. In a time of unprecedented change, WCSFP also calls for an honest, forward-looking dialogue about the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“We are proud to bring the WCSFP community for the first time to Latin America. I am especially grateful to our local partners in Brazil for allowing us to build a bridge to a thriving media landscape, rich storytelling traditions and an openness to innovation," said Donata von Perfall, Managing Director of Documentary Campus. “As home to one of the world's largest streaming audiences and an emerging content creation market, Brazil offers new perspectives for global dialogue and creative collaboration.”

“Each year, Congress captures the pulse of our industry — and this year, that pulse is accelerating with unprecedented intensity,” said Paul Lewis, WCSFP Conference Director. “WCSFP 2025 will confront vital questions around AI, digital platforms, and the evolving creator economy, as we navigate how to stay creative and connected in a rapidly shifting world. There is no better destination than the vibrant and dynamic Rio de Janeiro to embody this momentum. Its energy, diversity, and spirit of innovation mirror the transformative forces shaping our field.”

World Congress of Science & Factual Producers brings almost 600 delegates including producers, broadcasters, streamers, philanthropists, scientists, and cross-platform creators from over 30 countries each year. Key decision makers attend representing companies including National Geographic, BBC Studios, Discovery, ITV Studios, PBS, NHK, France Télévisions, CBC, ARTE, ZDF, ABC, Netflix, CuriosityStream, TikTok, YouTube, and Ubisoft, alongside independent storytellers, producers, filmmakers, podcasters, digital creators, science communicators, and subject-matter experts. Further details including registration and program highlights will be announced as the 2025 event approaches.
