Jiyoon Pyo

I am a third-year Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, where I am a member of the Knowledge Computing Lab advised by Prof. Yao-Yi Chiang.

My research studies how LLMs and vision-language models understand geospatial information. I focus on their strengths and limits in map-based reasoning by building benchmarks and evaluation methods, and developing techniques to improve reliability on domain-specific tasks. I’m also interested in how regional language and cultural context affect geospatial data and model interpretation.
