Intel has now "apologized" over pulling ads from Gamasutra. And by apology I mean they said "we don't want to take sides" but are still taking sides anyway.

What Intel refuses to see is that the so called movement is not about holding game journalists accountable but rather co-opts that concept as a smokescreen for harassment and misogyny. It's the gamer equivalent of the Men's Rights movement, where a group of people valid concerns have been used as a smokescreen for assholes who prefer to attack others rather than actually look at the issues they profess.

This causes dual harm. First to the ones they're directly harassing and second to the people who valid claims who are now tarnished by association.

What we have here is a group of people who have co-opted the terminology of social justice and used to to disguise their attacks. And they've bent a large international corporation to their will.

I for one will not be intentionally buying any more Intel products until they do better than this faux-pology. I only wish I hadn't recently spent money on them for my most current upgrade. I may only be one man, with no power outside of my own actions, but I can at least do what I think is right.

01:52 pm - Eat Gaucho and smile!
http://www.eatgaucho.com/

Yesterday I drove into the Strip District after work to pick up some tasty grub at Gaucho Parrilla Argentina. This is a take-out only (though they have a few seat-less counters) place that specializes in Argentinian grilled foods. The food is great, the folks friendly (it's owned by Anthony Falcon, former food and beverage director of Southpointe Golf Club and all around gracious host), and the place makes you come out smelling yummy!

We had an order of flank steak, shrimp, potatoes, vegetables, and a tortilla. Mr. Falcon even included all four of their chimmichurri based sauces for us to sample.

That dinner was worth driving all the way to the Strip and back during rush hour. I think it was the best meal I've had all year and may be in the top three meals I've had since last year.

Woke up with the song "Android Woman" stuck in my head.

Did Imagedoctorpinkerton place it there with some hynpo-music projector? If so, do you think I could get him to take it off repeat?

07:28 pm - I feel sick
Just saw something one one of those stupid "entertainment" news shows about a girl who was bullied over the size of her nose. Now she got free surgery and while I'm glad she feels better about herself, the story totally skipped by bullying and went right to the "now she's normal" schtick. I'm sure her bullies will totally stop and not start harping on how she had a nosejob. Or maybe not. Because they're BULLIES!

Seriously, when did we start telling kids to give in to peer pressure? What's next, some kid gets free bungee jumping lessons because all his peers jumped off a bridge?

08:29 pm - Try Aikido!
I know a lot of the locals that were on my LJ aren't around anymore, but just in case someone is interested...

Allegheny Aikido is starting beginner's classes from February 3 to February 26, every Tuesday and Sunday at 7 PM. This intro course is only $40.

One can join any time but the beginner's course is only done once a year. If you or someone you know would like to try, now is a good time for both a deal and to start with other beginners.

Class is held at the Wightman School, 5604 Solway St. RM 306, Pittsburgh PA 15217.

02:10 pm - Huh
Why am I now seeing ads within my posts? I didn't opt-in to anything and I pay LJ good money not to deal with any advertisements.

If this is a "thing" now, I'm going to be out of here in a flash.

10:19 pm - Aikido Musings
Today was the last day of Aikido for Matt Fisher, Yondan. Because of a progressive neuromuscular disease, he made the decision to "hang up his hakama".

Today was the largest class, outside of a seminar, I have ever seen in that dojo.

I had things I wanted to say, but the all seem washed away in emotion. But as Matt said, "this is not goodbye."

And as I replied, "yes, not only do I know where you live, but I know where you go to church."

Though you won't see this, except by some chance of fate, thank you, Matt.

01:28 pm - Why?
Why are multiple confirmed instances of voter suppression by Republican sources not getting any main stream media airtime? Instances that have resulted in arrests, mind you.

I guess since ACORN wasn't involved it doesn't matter. It's just Strategic Allied Consulting, an organization that was paid by the GOP to canvass and register voters.

12:19 am - Hellas: Worlds of Sun and Stone RPG Kickstarter
I'm imploring any lovers of Greek myth and/or Roleplaying games to help out with this project. I have the first printing and it's amazing. So much so, I put in for this update. Not a full new edition, but just an update. That's how much I like Jerry Grayson's work (that and he created my favorite superhero RPG I've never played, "The Godsend Agenda" and hope getting this stuff going helps encourage him to write more for that!)

Here's their next move: The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, would obliterate any semblance of online privacy in the United States.

And CISPA would provide a victory for content owners who were shell-shocked by the unprecedented outpouring of activism in opposition to SOPA and Internet censorship.

The House of Representatives is planning to take up CISPA later this month. Click here to ask your lawmakers to oppose it.

SOPA was pushed as a remedy to the supposed economic threat of online piracy -- but economic fear-mongering didn't quite do the trick.

So those concerned about copyright are engaging in sleight of hand, appending their legislation to a bill that most Americans will assume is about keeping them safe from bad guys.

This so-called cyber security bill aims to prevent theft of "government information" and "intellectual property" and could let ISPs block your access to websites -- or the whole Internet.

Don't let them push this back-door SOPA. Click here to demand that your lawmakers oppose CISPA.

CISPA also encourages companies to share information about you with the government and other corporations.

That data could then be used for just about anything -- from prosecuting crimes to ad placements.

And perhaps worst of all, CISPA supercedes all other online privacy protections.

Please click here to urge your lawmakers to oppose CISPA when it comes up for a vote this month.

Thanks for fighting for the Internet.

06:18 pm - Harry Readshaw is a creepy man
Blogger complains about a bill, gets personel information and a handwritten snarky letter back.

This bothers me on so many levels. Sending personal data? Mentioning his daughter's condition? Sending a handwritten letter with parts UNDERLINED IN RED? WTF? Not to mention the bill itself.

And to think, I used to live within walking distance of this asshole's Pittsburgh office. Is it wrong to want to glitterbomb a building?

Edit: On a personal note, Readshaw's idiocy bothers me on another level. He and his family have operated a funeral home in the same neighborhood my grandparents' old house was. My cousins and I would walk by and stick our hands in the stone lions. Family members and friends of the family have had their funerals there. Readshaw Funeral Home is a deep sort of memory. To know it's been run by this pitstain of a human just rankles me on a level I can't explain. Grrrrah!
