I'm doing this mostly for my own benefit, so I can see what I completed and what I started last year.

finished pieces )

WIPs )

magazines and kits (not started) )

I did finish a number of things last year, but most of my finishes were small projects. Most of my WIPs are large projects; I think I need to pick one and concentrate on it, maybe alternating with something small and simple so I don't get too frustrated. Right now I'm working on Alphonse Mucha's Primrose from Scarlet Quince, which is confetti everywhere and very slow progress. I recently started alternating work on it with the Mod Coasters freebie from Cross Stitch & Needlework Magazine, which is single blocks of color and quick progress.

Current progress on Primrose (I may start posting this here every week or two so I can see if I'm actually making any progress:

I realized I haven't posted anything but sales posts here since 2008. I've been meaning to post lately, but hadn't gotten around to it, and everything I wanted to post is out of date, but I'm posting anyway. I've also been playing with tumblr, so that gives me yet another place to not post on.

Ju-ken has been very quiet this year; he did post about being in someone's PV, so that should show up eventually, whatever it is. Coincidentally, Jun-ji posted about being in someone's PV at around the same time. Ju-ken also posted a Halloween greeting around the same time that VAMPS posted about their Halloween party, so I'd assume he's doing that (and three of the four dates conflict with Hotei's tour, not that I thought he would be touring with Hotei, but I could dream). I don't believe he deleted his blog again; he was doing so well with this one.

Lion Heads actually played Aug 7, with the unusual lineup of Masaaki Hanayama (vocals), Ryo (guitar), Den (bass), Keiichi Miyako (keyboards), and Sakura (drums); that's two actual members, one on a different instrument. I have no idea what happened to their original bassist; Den's been playing with them for years. Tooru Yoshida (keyboards) had a conflict; he was playing with Undergraph. Kaori Kobayashi (drums) was in the hospital; she has cancer (cervical? 子宮頸癌 is what she said). She's been blogging regularly, though.

I wish I knew why the post preview is showing up as my other lj; it makes me nervous. I don't want to post with or to that account.

fluffy Chacha!!!

Image

I wish I could have gotten a better screencap; I managed to get an extremely appalling one of Gackt (paused at the wrong moment), but the support weren't shown clearly often. I was kind of disturbed that he and Ju-ken had the only hair that moved at all; I think Ju-ken's was was not entirely intentional (the bits on top, possibly; the bit on one side but not the other, probably not supposed to do that). Gackt's hair was brushed forward from the back of his head to make bangs and was sprayed into place; I'm wondering if he's trying to hide something. It's also been looking slightly unnatural for a while now, but I can't put my finger on why. Admittedly, the fluffy was probably also in part to distract from his hairline (though flipping it around every which way defeated that purpose), but those sorts of issues are to be expected from someone his age (and have been obvious for years). Maybe someday I'll actually listen to the song.

It was nice to actually see Sakura somewhere; he was definitely in a good mood, smiling and laughing and talkative. I found a summary of it somewhere, and any music-related topics were Sid-related; there didn't seem to be any mention of Sakura-the-musician at all. He mentioned his myspace and S.O.A.P., apparently as the places where he updated regularly. I think that killed what little hope I had for the Lion Head's future (not that there was much to kill). Someone somewhere has to be making that sort of music; I just need to find it.

I'm still massively failing at communication; maybe someday I'll get my shit together. In the meantime, I'll ramble at length about people's hair and post in random locations instead of where I ought to.

meh.

I'm happy to see some signs of life at the Lion Heads site, but it's kind of random: they mentioned one of Hana's session band appearance but not the other (though Közi never updated with it either); they didn't mention Sakura's last performance or his next two (though they've only just been announced), but they did mention his upcoming appearance on Mao's radio show; and they've never updated for Kaori or Tooru (which is why I was really surprised at Hana). They really didn't give many details about Hana's appearance; if I hadn't seen it elsewhere, I don't know if I could have figured out what was going on. I was so excited one day when one of Kaori's blog posts had "studio" and "Lion Heads" in the first sentence; sadly, it was just that U_WAVE and Undergraph were rehearsing next to each other and she ran into Tooru. Also, google is weird; I'm #1 for Masaaki Hanayama from the last entry. Coincidentally, Sakura's next appearance (with スペースフィルターズ) and Kaori's (with 日向ひとみ) are back-to-back at Shibuya O-WEST on 11/23.

Jun-ji was very orange on Music Station; everything I've seem him in lately has been all black, all the time (except his hair), so it was kind of weird (and he'll probably be back to all black next week). I wonder if Ju-ken will re-dye his hair for Gackt's tour; I thought he had there, but it was just back (from the front, looked dark, but when he bent over, the top of his head was still red). I saw Muta had a conflict and thought "Jun-ji! umm, no." and was surprised when he mentioned it. I was even more surprised Ju-ken was there; her tour bassist was in the other performances and this was the day after the tour final (and why was she on all the shows for her album when she's never been on for her singles before (except "Crazy World" which I assumed was more because of AI)).

I'm really glad I didn't preorder the Jesus single; I was pretty sure from the preview I shouldn't watch the video, but did watch part anyway (and unfortunately saw the end). I don't think I can listen to the song again unless I somehow manage to forget what it's about, which sucks, because I really like the way it sounds (except the screamy bit in the middle, both the screaming in general and the words). I'm kind of baffled at some of the reactions and wonder if they noticed anything about it besides Gackt. I really hope someone takes screencaps of the members only. Maybe I wouldn't have had such a negative reaction if I hadn't had the residual anger triggered recently (and it was a very long time ago and I was surprised by how angry I got even now). I might try again later; the PMS isn't helping.

I have a niece! I wish I had the money to fix my car and board my cat so I could go see her. I'm kind of WTF at the name they chose, though; it's pretty, but she probably has a lifetime of spelling it for others ahead of her. At least it's short. I really ought to call or email her at some point (along with any number of other people; I've been failing at communication lately).

I forget that I like Dir en grey when Kyo actually sings; I'm fairly sure I don't generally want to know what he's singing about, though. I don't think I ever listened to their last, but enough people said good things about this one that I decided to try it. I hate screaming bits in the middle of songs (anyone, anytime).

eeee!

Hana! Singing for Közi, of all people! (session band Oct 22 for a RENTRER EN SOI event (Versailles (Guest)/chariots/Dio/Black:List/Sel'm/PPP(közi session band)) and again in November sometime; members: Vocals - Masaaki Hanayama (from Lion Heads)/Guitar - Kozi (ex-MALICE MIZER, Eve of Destiny)/Guitar - TOMO (ex-Eldorado, ex-CODE)/Guitar - KINZO/Bass - masahi (ex-CODE)/Drums - CHARGEEEE (OMEGADRIPP)). I knew there was a reason I was watching shattered-tranquility; mostly I don't care, but occasionally there's something interesting. I'm happy to see him doing something but am wondering how he ended up there; I have absolutely no idea what he might have done in the past.

I really hope this is a not-current profile even though she mentioned it as something new recently. Lion Heads aren't mentioned at all, but they aren't the only thing noticeably absent. That is the first paragraph of her profile on her site, but rest is different. It's an interesting list on that site; I knew she'd been associated with nil, but didn't know about SADS.

Someone apparently went through a period of wanting to be Jim Morrison when he grew up (ignoring that he's older than Morrison ever was there); a few of the other videos from that set are very Morrison-esque as well. I thought I'd watched those before, but apparently I hadn't (maybe looked at them and said, basic performance, will watch later, and didn't notice the Morrison cosplay). I ended up listening to some of his older music back to back with some Doors (hadn't listened to more than a song or two in years) and they were definitely an influence.

I wish bloglines would either fix their problems or shut down; they haven't been working right since late last month, and only three of my feeds updated today at all (and one more just did, hours later, and it's one of the ones that was working properly before). I like them better than google reader and have been hanging on, hoping they'll get things fixed (reading what I can there and what I can't in google; hopefully by the time I have to switch, I'll be used to it).

I am this close to yelling at those kids to get off my lawn; unfortunately, they're on their own lawn. Thankfully, they eventually went somewhere else. They are less annoying than the loud parties on weekdays sort of people who used to live back there, though. I'm cranky anyway, and am glad that dears has finally settled down; I'm still resisting the urge to nitpick somewhere (play count-the-errors from someone who I thought would've known better) and just be rude somewhere else (he's been there ten years; he wouldn't still be there if they thought he was inferior).

tab is better than enter when adding tags; I didn't mean to post earlier and it took me a minute to figure out how to delete a post.

green-haired claymation Hotei. Why have I never listened to Apocalyptica?

Why didn't I know that yukihiro recorded with Sulien on their first album last year? That might explain why Fujii Maki performed with acid android at the Christmas show; I wondered what the connection was. I know I've poked at their site before, but apparently either it was before they posted the participating artists or I never looked that far back in the news. I actually found the list on BUG's site; one of their members also participated. I wonder if Danger Crue is keeping one of the slots on the top page for older bands or if that's just the way it's worked out; BUG replaced Ra:IN, and I think Ra:IN replaced Earthshaker, but the rest haven't changed much since they redesigned the site.

In another random case of everyone's worked together at some point, a random google search told me that Ju-ken and Igao worked together in 2001 (support for S.Q.F). I knew Ju-ken had supported them, and I ought to have known Igao had (he was listed as support on a different site (bookmarked), but that site didn't list dates); apparently they at least performed together a few times. For some reason, I'd always assumed that Ju-ken and Shue had supported them at the same time, and it was nice to see proof of that. None of the clips on youtube were the right vintage, though Shue might have been the drummer in one; Yura-sama was the drummer for most of them (a concert, in pieces). An even more random google search (a random keyboard player) found that yukihiro had performed with his old band (a random performance in 2002 (maybe a few performances?), a few concert reports; the band's site is long gone and too image-heavy for archive.org to be useful), but failed to tell me anything I actually wanted to know (more production-type work than performance, contact information, but no official site, blog, anything like that; it was only vague curiosity, though). According to one of the concert reports, the band's drummer also played for TETSU69.

There was a big fuzzy spider in my kitchen and I don't know where it went! I can ignore the daddy longlegs; they are big, but insubstantial. This one was at bigger than them, and any one leg had more substance than one of them. I wish my cat paid more attention to bugs; he pretty much ignores them. Being deaf makes him less likely to notice them or to be able to track them well, but even when he could hear, he mostly ignored them.

I wish I had thought to get gas during the week, before the price-gouging and random shortages started. I'm not sure if the shortages were due to actual supply issues or people filling up in case of future supply problems; the paper says panic (too many people filling up just in case). I had no gas, and so had no choice.

yahoo.jp auctions are always interesting: randomly throwing a name in got me various bands, some relevant, some not (multiple people with the same kanji, including two drummers); magazines, mostly relevant; concert tickets, relevant but useless; items from a clothing line (want!), surprising and apparently relevant (and may be new), which led to much poking at google and failing to find any actual information (mostly shops); and a variety of T-shirts and tour goods, mostly relevant, including him on a T-shirt from a previous band. nude. I'm still kind of stunned, but further investigation shows that I probably wouldn't have been quite so surprised if I were more familiar with that band. I was at first disappointed that I couldn't tell if the random tattoo+bellybutton picture in another cd booklet was him or not, but looking at the booklet picture more closely (the scanner is my friend) and re-evaluating which way was up, I think it was him (though the existence of a tattoo made it most likely him, and I've since found a different picture (low pants, same amount of skin visible) where it's more obvious). I wanted to use one of the other pictures for an icon, but they're too rectangular (and I suck); the only ones that would easily work are the ones of Tokie staring off into space, and that's not what I want right now. I can't find anything that I can crop decently for an icon; it seems that I only find decent pictures when I'm not looking for them. The only decent ones I found today were the ones from Hotei's tour, and I don't like them (though they'd match the one of Ju-ken that I currently have). This one will have to do until I find a better one.

Why have all my recent random fascinations been drummers, anyway? The last few were transient, but this one might be more permanent; he's active in ways that can somewhat be followed from here, and I really like his music (last DVD + last two CDs bought were his; next will probably be the other LOSALIOS DVD and his other band's CD).

Ju-ken and VAMPS seem to be drinking their way across Japan. I wonder if it's worth it to try to find out if the drummer has a site or blog or if any of Monoral's support have blogs; he hasn't had any pictures with actual VAMPS but has had several with varying parts of Monoral. I think Monoral needs new pictures; it's hard to tell from their blog posts, but I don't think Anis looks like that any more.

I wish I knew if I dreamed about posting to pieces or if the relevant comment (and at least one afterwards) was purposely deleted or if the forum just randomly eats posts; I'm not sure which would be worse. I do think that I did post; the original poster responded and then I did again and the second of mine is still there and looks out of context now.

If I binge-listen to 80s metal, last.fm's going to start giving me 80s metal recommendations again. I just got it to stop! I don't want any more 80s metal than what I have, and they were recommending more hair bands than actual metal, anyway. It looks like they fixed the lj-last.fm thing to accept unicode (or at least kanji); maybe I'll try using it again.

Tooru Yoshida has a blog! He apparently just started it last month, so nothing about the show in July; he does link to the Lion Heads site, even though it has a distinct air of abandonment. I don't know why I'm still bothering to check it regularly; the lion blog's been broken for at least two months, and seems to have been replaced by Sakura's myspace. I don't think the original intention was for the lion blog to be Sakura only, but it did end up that way.

Apparently, the mailman tried to deliver a package yesterday early afternoon and successfully later; I think I was home both times, and was watching for him because he won't knock (the doorbell is extremely flaky) and never saw him. It's vaguely possible I was upstairs both times and didn't hear the truck. I thought he was reliable so maybe it was a substitute, but I'm thinking whoever it was didn't even try, especially since somebody else signed for it in my name. I did receive it, and if I'd thought about it sooner, I'd have asked if they could waive the signature since the mailbox is secure and the mailman will not knock and it's really annoying to pay for EMS and have it delayed because I didn't hear the mailman. Also, I think HMV is my new best friend, unless I absolutely want first press or there's an overseas version; for this, it had to be HMV or amazon.jp (and 1200 yen shipping beat 2300, especially since I wasn't sure if fedex delivered weekends or holidays; they shipped Friday and I got it Tuesday anyway); cdjapan didn't have what I wanted, and if they had, I'd still be waiting.

I think I've found my most favorite song title ever: "wander alone like a rhinoceros". Instrumental, sadly; the Japanese title was 犀の角のようにただ独り歩め. I'm vaguely tempted to set that as my title or subtitle (or both). The obi had Japanese song titles and credits; the back cover and insert had English subtitles and credits. Stupid last.fm; I'd like to use the English titles, but I'd rather match the other listeners (all 22 of them).

Why did I look through Kiyoharu's blog again (and why does it not seem to be linked from his site)?? That picture didn't really look like Igao, but I don't know who else it would have been; Igao specifically mentioned Kiyoharu and had a random picture that was similar to some of his others and Kiyoharu referred to the person as a keyboard player and named him Igarashi.

So he is still Gackt's official bassist! Maybe I can use that as motivation to post that batch of pictures to [livejournal.com profile] gacktjob_daily. I checked Jun-ji's site, and he will be the drummer; I'm happy it will be him, but I did have a vague wish that it might be Ryu.

I had a long rant about Anna Tsuchiya and her personal image vs. the image her label or management want to project half-composed in my head; if I can make something coherent out of it, I'll come back and add it later. The rant was brought on by noticing that her tattoos probably ought to be showing in the "Virgin Cat" PV and possibly in some of the promo pictures. I don't know how much control she has over her sound and image, but the effort they take to cover up her tattoos makes me wonder.

WTF, Ju-ken?!? I can't decide whether I want to unsee it or see more; context would be nice. I wish I could find a better-than-youtube version of Hoshimura Mai on Music Fighter; their cameras were annoying, and the bassist was way off to the side (was tall, it could have been his bass and his favorite hat; the light-colored strap bothered me, though). Music Station had a closer grouping and focused on each support member at least once, though if I'd thought about it, I'd have realized that was impossible. I did ask nicely, so hopefully someone somewhere has it; I'm surprised there weren't requests already since L'Arc~en~Ciel was there, and it looks like the only version of that floating around is a converted-from-youtube type (HQ youtube, admittedly).

A late opinion, but I still don't understand why Gackt is the end of the world, but Koda Kumi was just WTF; I did look back and note that none of end-of-the-world people commented on that at the time. It's just recording one song, anyway. I would assume that money was a factor, but the length of the acquaintance might have been part of the reason as well; every little bit helps, but I can't imagine that recording one song would be worth a substantial amount of money. I'm just happy he's playing drums along with producing. If I could write fic, I know what I'd be writing.

I wonder how badly my sister would kill me if I bought my hypothetical niece a bunch of hippie clothes (psychedelic patterned dresses! tie-died onesies!). I'm slightly disturbed by the amount of outfits with spandex leggings in the 3/6 month sizes; partly because spandex leggings and partly because I thought at that age, one wanted things with snaps to make accessing diapers easy. I would hope they are loose-fitting and easy on/off, but it still seems like it would be inconvenient.

I need to feed and medicate my poor cat; why is he sleeping in such a way that I can't get up instead of complaining about how he is STARVING TO DEATH and must be fed NOW?

wtf?!?!?

WTF?

It's only one song, but my inner fangirl is still bouncing between what the hell??? and eeeeeee!!!! I assume Chacha's still assistant producer, so that's 2/3 of the people I fangirl the most, working together; it's too bad Ju-ken probably wasn't recording at this time. If he did TV support (unlikely) or toured (extremely unlikely) and Ju-ken was still there (possible), I think my inner fangirl would die of happiness.

I was going to say that I was surprised he mentioned it because I thought that person was picky about that sort of thing, but on second thought, I think that might just be Ju-ken (I never did figure out exactly what sort of problems he was having in his comments, but know they were Gackt-related); Terasawa mentioned recording "Redemption" (though not by name) in July 2005 (and that's where that one picture of You and Chacha came from; the ones of him with Ju-ken and Chacha were backstage at a live.)

I'm going to have to do stupid computer tricks later; I want to switch TV cards and see if I have any better luck recording, and think that adding a network card (this motherboard has onboard) is going to be the only way of changing my IP address (everything off overnight didn't help, longer might, but I'd rather do stupid hardware tricks); I've found several more sites that I can reach with the laptop but not the PC.

I might have more sympathy for my starving cat if he didn't have food available (dry, second-best) and if I didn't know that as soon as I feed him, he'll eat two bites and go to sleep for the day (though he's been better about that lately).

I hate that lj uses the time a post was started instead of the actual posting time for the entry date/time.

  1. If I'm tired and rambly, I should ramble here instead of in random comments
  2. I don't believe I missed the really obvious portent of doom: they seem to be moving the blog to myspace instead of fixing whatever's wrong with the site.
  3. The original 遠い朝 is sleep inducing and if it was anyone else singing, I wouldn't have made it through; I like the 2005 unplugged version much, much better. Also, earlier ends is much more psychedelic than later ends.
  4. Why can't I access losalios.com from this computer (the laptop is fine)? I had the same sort of issue with a different site in the past, and it was due to previously unused IP addresses being blocked by firewalls. I think I've been there since I've had this IP address, though, so don't know why it would suddenly be a problem.
  5. I think that was the fastest I've ever had an order shipped from cdjapan: two items, 3-5 day availability ordered the 28th and shipped the 31st; usually, regardless of availability, orders seem to spend a couple of days in processing and a couple in preparing for shipping and occasionally a couple sitting with everything in stock and available.
  6. The new delicious is annoying as hell. The font sizes are all wrong and I'd like a little more contrast; the bookmark name is too big, but changing the font size would result in unreadable tags. Chronological is nice, but I don't need them separated by date. I'd like to see all of my tags all of the time; hopefully, choosing that will be persistent (along with 25 at a time instead of 10), and I spent too much time bitching about it and now have no idea why I went there in the first place. What is it with annoying new interfaces lately anyway? last.fm is broken in a variety of ways; they should have beta-tested longer (and I want my weekly artists chart back!).
  7. Why were all the bikers in the narrow, two-lane, no shoulder street at the tail end of rush hour instead of on the empty bike path? Thankfully, they weren't on my side, since my side was mostly stopped and there was no room for bikes.
  8. someday, I will sleep

All I want is a clean and decent-sized version of this picture. I can find clean (it was apparently sent out with promotional materials); I can find decent sized (it was the soundtrack and VHS cover and was on some of the posters); I can't find both clean and decent-sized. I don't know why I put that in my netflix queue; it's not the sort of thing I usually watch (too violent, and it looks like the sort of thing where everyone dies in the end). Of course, I'll probably never watch it; my queue has around 200 items, and I'm on a one-at-a-time plan. I don't know why I'm bothering to attempt to acquire an episode of a TV show that I know I'm not going to be able to watch, either; when trying to figure out what it was, I found a behind-the-scenes picture of him with somewhat graphic shot-in-the-forehead makeup, and from what I've been able to see (it's stalled at 72%), that's probably not the bit that will bother me the most.

I don't need to spend the time to watch low quality unsubtitled dramas, either; there were people bitching about the cost of the DVDs, which I took with a grain of salt, but looked it up, and they are ¥3800 per DVD; each DVD is one episode + extras; there are twelve episodes. I'd been thinking that I didn't know Mika Nakashima ever acted, and looked at my netflix queue a couple of times after thinking that, and felt stupid after I realized that NANA 2 is at the top of the queue; according to imdb, she was in another movie in 2003, but that's all (drama, movie, both NANAs).

There are far too many musicians named Tatsuya Nakamura; I found four while looking for pictures: three had the same kanji, two of those were drummers, and they were the ones that showed up the most in image searches (the one I was looking for was the most common, thankfully). Admittedly, there are various qualifiers I could add to searches to make it more likely that I had the right person (and I did when looking for the movie picture in various ways), but I would have missed a few things.

I need to stop bouncing off the Lion Heads' site or at least stop hitting the bassist's blog; his last update was a year ago after playing at the Showboat, and I keep accidentally clicking it and being excited until I notice the year. I need to just give them up for dead, and be pleasantly surprised if they ever release anything again.

Ju-ken actually updated his blog instead of just notes of the day; I was expecting a note for myco, but she got a whole entry. I am very impressed and happy for her that she managed to sell all of their single in the time set, despite being sick occasionally and dealing with general bad luck and severe harassment a few times. I don't think she realized on the front end how much trouble it was going to be; the original statement was playing every day, but after a week of that, she realized she couldn't keep that up for a month and adjusted her schedule accordingly. She deserves all of the congratulations she is receiving (75 comments, last time I checked).

Chacha has the most gorgeous smile...

I am completely uninterested in a live CD set of Gackt's concerts, though; I'm not generally interested in listening to live recordings unless they have something more or different than the originals. I've ripped the audio from a few DVDs, they had somewhat different arrangements, extremely high-energy performances, and/or lots of crowd involvement, and one I didn't have the relevant CD (¥1000 from yahoo.jp for the DVD vs ¥3000 for the CD? no contest) and ended up liking some of the live arrangements better. Gackt's concerts are too close to the source for me to be interested; I want the associated DVD, though. I hope there will be an actual new album at some point; it's been three years since Diabolos. I do wonder what Chacha's been doing all this time; I'm kind of surprised there's been no news of him at all. I wonder if You's photoshoot from earlier this month was for darts x tsutaya 11 (at least I assume that's what the hosho blog was referring to with a post about tsutaya 11, tagged darts, to start friday.) 11's probably the right number; 9 was Ju-ken, and I think there's only been one since then (Gackt?).

It's really disconcerting to check a site and see:

kanjikanjikanji DEATH kanjikanjikanji

scrolling down, it was only hot sauce, but it scared me for a minute.

ebay is weird; I don't think there's been any zigzo since i bought chi to ase... last year. I was randomly putting band names in and found losalios and ends and a few other really random things. They're all from Taiwanese sellers, though, which makes me kind of nervous, and they are slightly more than I'm willing to take a chance on buying and are maybe $10 less than buying new (and buying from ebay won't help the artists, anyway). I think I'm going to go back to contemplating Losalios's live DVD or his more recent projects instead. I don't believe someone paid $30 for Minoru Niihara's One. It's out of print, but not really rare; there's at least one copy a month on ebay (I paid $15.55 total for mine; I don't know why I still have the saved search, but it's interesting to see what other people pay for it). I really don't believe the person who paid $66 for Ded Chaplin's first; it's harder to find, but not that hard, and isn't really worth it (and I'm tempted to put that back as a saved search out of curiosity; I only saw that one because it was also listed under Niihara).

It's too bad the 80s Flash Gordon apparently spent their budget on sets and costumes and music and supporting actors didn't have any left for writers and lead actors (and wtf Timothy Dalton? Richard O'Brien???). I now have the theme stuck in my head, sometimes randomly mixed with The Big O theme (Flash was its inspiration).

stupid cat; I need sleep, managed to actually fall asleep, and as soon as I did, he came upstairs, yowled outside my bedroom door for a minute, and went back downstairs and back to sleep. Now he's apparently starving to death (cat downstairs, food upstairs) and is trying to dig up the carpet and kill my phone charger. And I fed him and he STILL thinks he's starving and I don't want to go up there and show him that he has food.

I ought to tag or title my posts; it would be easier if it was something other than disconnected ramblings, though.

That was such a heartfelt message from Ju-ken in response to the very nice fanart. He sounded so happy and so lucky to be able to make a living doing something he clearly enjoys; I hope he continues to succeed and has many years of bass playing in his future. It's too bad it was a note (now gone) instead of a more permanent blog entry, though. I do wonder what article he was referring to. The bass magazine article from a couple of years ago mentioned Heath and hide (and I'd think if he was doing something with Heath ten years ago, it was hide-related). I wish either a cheaper copy of that would show up or I could justify ¥1500+fees+shipping for a two-page article; all I could really pick out of the picture he posted at the time were those names. I'm assuming that he was talking about professional as in full-time, not professional as in for-money; he was playing for Kiyoshi in 1997, and I'd assume that he was paid and that he'd been playing bass in some capacity even before then. There was an old (now gone) post that I interpreted as him supporting himself as a bassist since 1999, but I could have misinterpreted it or failed to do the math correctly; that's not really incompatible with him becoming a professional bassist in 1998, though. I am overthinking this, and need to either stop or spend some quality time with google and see what I can find.

I wish I believed that Lion Heads having an actual performance was a sign of more activity to come.

Note to self: do not read comments on youtube, especially if they are in the hundreds. There were far too many people taking the Swedish Chef seriously (including one calling it racist and a reason why people hate Americans). How in the hell can you take the muppets that seriously in the first place, and how can you take something seriously that is making chocolate mousse by putting chocolate on the moose and doughnuts with muffins and shotguns??? and how did I forget about the mooffins and DO-NUT (especially since I think DO-NUT every time I see one)???

fail

...and I still fail at recognizing Den (or anyone else except Sakura) unless he looks like he did in Zigzo, even when I know that's who it must be. I ended up checking his site to be sure he was there, but am still doubting myself. I wish I didn't identify people primarily by their hair. I don't pay as much attention to him as maybe I should; the last time I noticed him, he had the green hair but looking through his site, he's often been blond.

I wasn't really surprised that the bassist wasn't there; I wonder what happened to him. I also wonder if that's worth posting to sakura_fans; it's not really news and I don't think she mentioned anything about future plans. I'll wait and see if anyone else posts anything later; she must have posted before she went to bed.

Back to contemplating Ju-ken's latest notes. I guess it could be worse and he could be hand writing and scanning instead of text-as-image; at least it's mostly readable.

Den and Ju-ken on stage together! (not that you can really tell; also with Hakuei and Kiyoshi and others, from here)

Also, fuzzy pants!

I did know about this before, though not that they would have been on stage together (I think it's the encore; there are also three guitarists). There's some portion of the tourbook and a magazine article on [livejournal.com profile] jrock_scans somewhere; Ju-ken's named in the article and is identifiable in the tourbook. I had a moment of intense stupidity when I first saw the tourbook; I was going through it backwards for some reason, and my train of thought went something like this (at the time I liked Zigzo, but was still kind of new to them):

bassist with a steinberger, unusual
bassist looks kind of like that guy from Zigzo, weird
upon seeing the bassist named: if the bassist LOOKS LIKE DEN and is playing a STEINBERGER LIKE DEN, he probably IS DEN.

I still wonder what Ju-ken was doing before then (97); this is the earliest of him I've seen and is apparently before he started playing bass professionally or full-time or something (there was an old blog post that he mentioned supporting himself as a bassist for x years, which worked out to 99 or so; I think the current note of the day talks about Heath, ten years ago, and is going to be a pain to deal with).

It's not as weird as the time I found Ju-ken's picture and some information on a By-Sexual fansite, though.

I wish my Japanese was better, so I could get a better idea of what upset Kaori so much and so I could possibly leave her a supportive comment; I feel guilty now about being impatient with her for not updating (and she's been updating almost every day for a while, so I was starting to wonder if there was something wrong).

On the other hand, I think I can legitimately be annoyed at the lack of updates on the Lion Heads site itself; I am happy that there are signs of life, but there's a media appearance (what looked like a last-minute decision on Kaori's radio show, but still, it was an appearance) and a live that have not yet been mentioned. The manager blog hasn't been updated since February, even though Sakura has played since then (previous support appearances were at least mentioned before and after; there was at least one with a full report). It looks like their last live as a full band was July 15, 2007 at Koenji Showboat; I am glad the Showboat site at least has updated their schedule for the July 14 show (I trust Kaori knows her own schedule, but it's nice to have another listing). I do wonder if the bassist will be there; he hasn't updated there since last July, though he was in the October Q&A update.

I know he's busy (three lives in three days and straight into rehearsal), but I'm surprised Ju-ken hasn't updated his blog since his late June dates, especially the birthday show. He did have notes of the day about them all (and a very happy one after the birthday show), but nothing permanent. There weren't as many posts as I expected about the birthday show in general (and very few with pictures); Muta had the best involved-person's report; he said nice things about Shamo and as a result of their meeting, Yosh went to see one of his other bands. I don't know why Yui has a different drummer for PV/TV appearances than she does for lives; she is actively touring, and still had a different drummer on CDTV. It's possible that Muta had a conflict in this case, but he performs with her a lot and is very, very rarely on TV with her.

I didn't notice yesterday when I was poking around that the drummer Kaori Kobayashi's guest on her radio show last week was the saxophone player Kaori Kobayashi (same kanji). I only noticed today because there was a link to kaorikobayashi.com and I'd just been to Kaori's site (something/kaorin, not a custom domain). I'm still not sure how I managed to find her site in the first place; the vast majority of search engine results at the time were the saxophonist, and I don't think I knew her kanji until after I found her site.

Sakura!!! (and Hana and Kaori and Tooru; hopefully she'll post about it on her blog tomorrow; I think she updated the show site before she left).

On a shallow note, I do hope his hair's up under his hat and not gone, but as long as he doesn't do the brush your hair forward to hide the receding hairline type of style, I'll be happy; I hate that sort of style (there are far too many people who hit their late 30s and suddenly started brushing their hair forward, making it really obvious that they're trying to hide something), but he hasn't really tried to hide it before now (hats, yes, but also pictures where it shows). I hope someone updates the Lion Heads site soon; the lion blog is broken (again), and they had a media appearance of sorts and an upcoming live.

I wish my Japanese was better; seeing "ER" in the middle of everything was unnerving (I think continuing pain of some sort and not an injury, late night visit, x-rays and bloodwork and back home, with a note and a picture of the entrance and complaining about getting old), and his notes are images instead of text and I'm too tired to deal with today's (and after looking at it I'm still not sure what's going on besides pain). Also, I will stay away from the people that think that Ju-ken being with VAMPS is a sign of some sort of gacktxhyde-ness (or at least hope they're not really serious; either way, there's no point in it); the only thing Gackt had to do with it was not providing work, leaving him free for other projects (and who knows what he would have chosen if there had been a conflict). I'm still confused by his statement of conflicts in November with Anna's schedule; I'm going to assume it was a mis-statement for now (he has conflicts in the fall and November's in the fall). The Zepp dates with Anna that were briefly on his schedule are now on Anna's (3 of them; I assume the one on 8/14 was replaced by the festival 8/16) but haven't yet reappeared on his schedule. And they've now appeared since the last time I checked his site (a few hours ago; he usually updates in what is late afternoon/early evening for me, but I looked again just to be sure, not really expecting any changes).

I wonder if I can get caught up with Doctor Who before being spoiled for this season's end; I only have a season of Torchwood and a season of Who to get through. Torchwood is the least-secret undercover organization I've ever seen.

I am very happy that Funimation picked up several shows that Geneon dropped; I think they got all the ones I was actually watching, plus a couple more I was interested in (and I think the other main one I was interested in was picked up by someone else). I'm very glad I haven't been interested in anything of ADV's in a while, though. And Funimation just picked up a ton of ADV's titles as well (and I was kind of interested in a couple after all).

I wish I had better icon-making skills (anything more than cropping a picture is beyond me); I'm tired of 2/3 of them and want something new (one same person, different picture; the others probably different people, though the people I'm tempted to look for icons of aren't likely to be relevant to anywhere I'm likely to be posting). I still don't know how I managed to end up with random musicians instead of actual bands as fandoms (main: a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer; secondary: another drummer and a mostly-inactive singer and possibly a guitarist/singer (the last two are solo artists at this point, though) and am afraid of acquiring an extremely random drummer and am far too interested in various bandmates of these people).

Someday, I will learn to use less parentheses and semicolons; at least I'm not abusing ellipses any more. Also, fatigue=rambling.

I don't watch that many people's blogs, and it's mildly disconcerting when unrelated people have similar experiences; it shouldn't surprise me when random musicians are all at the same show (especially the big ones), though. Three different people mentioned the band Personz: Koichi Terasawa is doing something with their bassist at the Tokyo Guitar Show, and You and Kaori Kobayashi went their concert. Kaori also actually mentioned Lion Heads in passing for the first time in months (only in the context of a baseball team reminding her of them, sadly).

Also, two people had run-ins with the police (one group was playing outside somewhere and made it through two songs before the police showed up; as near as I could tell, someone else had a bag the police thought looked suspicious, and was tired and cranky when asked about it).

I am surprised that there is someone out there who refers to Ryuichi Nishida as "Ryu-chan" (naming a group: one person had no honorific, but everyone else was -san in Japanese and Mr. in English). I wouldn't have thought they knew each other that well, but they are both drummers from Osaka and only a few years apart. I'm also wondering why Detrox is performing with an older prog/jazz/fusion rhythm section; Kozo admittedly supports a wide variety of people (somewhat recently recorded with Acid Black Cherry and performed with Loudness), but Toshimi Nagai doesn't seem to really do support at this point; he might be recording and not mentioning it, but I haven't noticed him performing outside of his various projects.
