Annotate pour Mac

According to the company, Annotate was sold to CloudApp. CloudApp now has Annotate built-in.

I'm really warming up to this app. I've been using Annotate and Monosnap side by side for about two weeks now. Annotate is so much easier on the eyes; and it provides everything I need in my workflow.

Pros:
- is simple & fast
- has all the tools you need to mark up a screenshot if required (incl. redaction)
- provides the necessary (basic) options for sharing your snaps (Dropbox, email, Twitter, Facebook, and Message; I mostly save to Dropbox or share via Message and email)
- allows you to keep multiple screenshot windows open (love it)
- won't shrink quality/resolution of snaps on Retina systems (an option under Preferences)
- records time-limited GIF movies for quick demos

Cons
- won't grab the title of the window you snap (unlike Monosnap; when I have to take many shots in a row, I keep going back to Monosnap so files in my designated Screenshot folder are not just an endless list of files named by date and time, but categorized by window/app snapped)
- won't let you customize the file name (default is eye-mm-dd at hh.mm)
- won't let you specify a custom default Save folder under Preferences (but will remember your last Save location in the app)
- does not have a Timer feature (although the developer is working on it, I believe)

The developer is very responsive, if contacted, and open to suggestions. Their goal seems to be to keep things simple so as not to overwhelm "nonpower" users — so if you want a ton of customization options, you are not the target audience. However, if you want a nice, quick, reliable screenshot and annotation app, check it out — at $1.99 it's a steal; but at this point, I would even pay $4.99 for it (having the option to keep multiple snaps open at a time alone is worth it for me).

Well, this app looks great and is very easy to use. But it misses many core things like: - Upload to other services (e.g. FTP) or use available Sharing Services (available in the System Prefs) - Only bare customization options (e.g. Font, Styles, …) - A way to set the arrow direction (I almost always drag in the wrong direction) I can't see what's the benefit of using this instead of Preview (under Yosemite) for annotations. So even I have purchased the app I am not using it. My dream team is Dropshare in combination with Preview.

Screenshot apps seem to be a "in" of late — SnappyApp, QuickShot, now Annotate. At this price point, I'd like to see some more features implemented before I actually buy (and not just try): I like the look of Annotate. There are a couple of things I’d love to see before I commit to it: 1) Give me the option to save to a folder of my choice or set a default folder of my choice on Dropbox and/or implement iCloud sync. (SnappyApp syncs through iCloud; Annotate puts its folder into the Apps folder on Dropbox, but Monosnap lets me choose any folder to save images to — much more convenient). 2) Implement a timer function. Sometimes, users want to capture a hidden menu: you start a screenshot timer, and then open the menu, and when the timer is at zero, take a snap of the open (or selected) menu/area. 3) Bump up the resolution (or let users choose) — on a Retina display, the fonts in the screen shot look a bit fuzzy. I used to be a huge fan of Snap-n-Drag, but it looks like it won't implement cloud sync (at least that's the last I head from the developer). For now, Monosnap is my preferred (affordable) choice — sure, its not easy on the eyes and shows some "UX wear" at this point, but the price is right.. FWIW: I emailed the developers of SnappyApp (twice) and the developer of Annotate (once) — asking specific questions. I never received a response from either. Not a good sign in my book, and I won't be dropping $10 on an app if the developer doesn't have time or is set up to respond to a simple email.
