Volleyball Begins CUSA Play With Win Over Jacksonville State Behind Inman's Big Night

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Jacksonville State in four sets (19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-17) to begin Conference USA play with a victory. Kennedi Inman had another big night with 50 assists and 16 digs.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Inman's 50 assists and 16 digs were match highs. She also added two aces, a block, and a kill.
Anna Logan Gillens also had a big night with 20 kills to go with two blocks.
Thalia Yancey had a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs while hitting a solid .278.
Jayda Redd stuffed the stat sheet with eight kills, three aces, two blocks, eight digs, and hit .273 .
Morgan Campbell had a career-high 11 kills.
Asia Murray had eight kills with four blocks.
Emily Zgonc recorded a career-high 15 digs.
Jayda Gray had 10 digs.
Taylor Holly recorded seven digs and picked up her first career kill.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET

The first set had seven ties and five lead changes - the most in the match. JSU jumped ahead 8-3 before five straight points by Delaware tied it up. Zgonc had two consecutive aces. UD then went up 12-11.
Two kills by Gillens helped put Delaware ahead 17-16. Jax State scored the next three points to take the lead for good, then scored the final five points of the set to win 25-19.
Gillens had six kills and Inman had 12 assists and six digs in the set.

SECOND SET

Delaware took its first lead of the second at 7-6 after consecutive kills by Yancey and Campbell. An 8-0 gave Jax State a 15-9 lead.
UD got back on track with four points in a row on two kills by Gillens, one by Yancey, and a block by Campbell and Inman before eventually tying the score at 17-17. Delaware ended the set scoring eight of the final 12 points to win 25-22.
Gillens had seven kills and Inman had 12 more assists. Zgonc had seven digs.

THIRD SET

Delaware scored four straight early in the third to take a 6-2 lead that it would never give up.
A 6-0 run put UD ahead 14-6. Yancey and Redd each had two kills in the run. JSU trimmed the lead to 18-15, but Delaware was able to pull away for a 25-19 set win
Redd had four kills and Inman had 14 assists.

FOURTH SET

Jax State took a 4-0 lead to start the fourth and held a 10-6 lead. Delaware used a 4-0 run to even the score at 11-11, then scored three more points in a row to take a 14-12 lead.
Another 4-0 run gave UD a 22-16 before Delaware ended the match with back-to-back aces from Redd.
Yancey had five kills in the set and Inman had 12 assists. Redd added six digs.

MATCH NOTES

Inman recorded her fourth 50-assist match of the season. Only one other Conference USA player has a 50+ assist match this season.
This was also Inman's third double-double of the season and sixth of her career.
Inman is the first Delaware player to have at least 50 assists in a four-set match since Ezgi Basaranlar had 54 against UMBC on Sept. 7, 2019.
Inman is also the first Delaware player to have at least 50 assists and 15 digs in a four-set match since at least 2009.
Gillens recorded her second 20+ kill match in her last three matches. She is one of four CUSA players this season with at least 20 kills in a four-set match.
Yancey's double-double was the fourth of her career.
Delaware improved to 4-1 in conference-opening matches under head coach Kimberly Lambert.
