Yes, explicitly. The free tier may be used for any purpose, including commercial products, SaaS applications, plugins, client work and internal business tools. If 1,000 requests a day are all your application needs, you never have to buy anything. The only restriction is one account per person or company: creating several accounts to multiply the free quota is not allowed (terms, section 2.9).
If you build a plugin or integration where each of your users signs up for their own ipapi.is account and key, every one of them gets their own free tier.
No. There are three ways to use the API, and two of them involve no recurring payment:
- Free tier — 1,000 requests per day with an account. $0.
- One-time credits — pay once, 30,000 requests per dollar, any amount from $1, never expire. For example, $20 buys 600,000 requests you can use over months or years.
- Subscription — a fixed daily quota billed monthly, for steady high volume. Cancel anytime.
All three return exactly the same data.

You can cancel your subscription at any time. For API subscriptions, your access continues until the end of the billing period. For database subscriptions, since they grant immediate download access, at least one billing cycle is required.
No. With an account and API key, the free tier returns exactly the same response as every paid plan — the same fields, the same data quality. The only difference is the daily volume. The reduced response with ownership and location only applies to requests without an API key.
Yes! The Business subscription ($200/month) includes access to all ipapi.is databases and allows you to run the complete ipapi.is API in your own infrastructure. The self-hosted server ships as a single native Linux binary with no runtime dependencies and requires only 4 GB of RAM. See the Business subscription page for details.
