What does my IP address reveal? Your public IP identifies your internet connection. It can show an approximate location and network organization. VPN and mobile IPs may be located far from you. AS organization is not necessarily your ISP; unavailable fields are left unfilled.
How to read your IP lookup
Your public IP is the address a website sees for a connection. It can be shared by devices behind a router or changed by a VPN exit. IPTestor reports the observed address or the public address you enter.

What the fields mean
- IP Version
- The normalized address format: IPv4 or IPv6. It is not a dual-stack connectivity test.
- City and coordinates
- An approximate database location, not GPS or a street address.
- Country and country code
- The database’s geographic assignment; it may differ from a registry contact country.
- ASN and AS organization
- The autonomous system and associated organization. This does not establish residential use or your retail ISP.
- Postal code and ISP
- Shown only when supplied. Missing information is not replaced with a guess.
Common questions
Why is the city wrong?
VPN exits, mobile gateways and database changes can lead to a different city. The map cannot establish a person’s location.
Can I look up a private IP?
Private and loopback addresses are rejected because they are not globally unique public endpoints.
Does IPv6 mean my device has IPv6?
No. A manually entered IPv6 address can be looked up over an IPv4 connection.
