Many of our improvements are visible to assistive technology but not to all users, and they always operate. These toggles let you customize behavior and control the visible-to-all changes.

All formats
Replace existing alt text where ours is better
Reduce oversized images to 150 dpi for smaller filesizes Off by default. Lossy — downsampling large images can slightly reduce quality; use it to shrink big files.
Replace math pictures and raw math with OMML Recognizes math in pictures and plain text and promotes it to OMML for better screen-reader accessibility.
Replace raw URLs with descriptive link text
Embed fonts, possibly resulting in a slight change of appearance When on, fonts your document names but doesn't include are rendered with a close generic substitute — layout may shift slightly. Off (default) leaves such fonts flagged.
Calibrates vocabulary, terminology depth, and acronym handling. Off (default) leaves alt-text uncalibrated.
Additional context for alt-text generation Adds audience or domain context to guide alt-text vocabulary. Treated as data, not instructions; does not change file structure or other remediation.

What does this tool do?

DocAble automatically fixes common accessibility issues in PowerPoint (.pptx), Word (.docx), and PDF files: missing alt text, missing titles, low-contrast text, incorrect reading order, missing table headers, document metadata, and more.

The goal is to improve access for all students and help documents better satisfy the accessibility checks in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

This tool will not modify existing content. It only enhances the material to be usable by accessibility tools.

DocAble also includes a free accessibility viewer and editor for all supported formats.
