Washington DC—It hardly seems like a year has passed since the Secret Service raided the William Thomas Memorial Peace Vigil Tent and took down its signage. The Peace Vigil Tent sat across from the North Portico of the White forty-four years straight, the longest running peace vigil in the North American continent.
Members of the Peace Vigil held a one year remembrance of the legendary Peace Vigil and spoke about the great sacrifices its former activists made to keep it going. They also heralded its many achievements including honoring the principles of the First Amendment.
“The Vigil stands for everybody’s right to the First Amendment,” said Philipos Melaku-Bello, longtime peace activist. “With that being taken down, watch out for the things you actually care about.” He recalled the incidents of the days leading up to its removal. He spoke about Will Roosien, one of its youngest activists who jumped onto the tent to protect the tent as National Park Service Police detained him and took away the tent.
Rowena, another peace activist, said, “ The Peace Vigil was our place to have our First Amendment Rights to protest and its been there for 44 years. The ‘Peace President,’ the man who said he wanted the Nobel Peace Prize is the one who dismantled it after 44 years, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
What Led To The Peace Vigil Takedown
On September 17 2025, right-wing media personality Brian Glenn broached the subject of the Peace Vigil Tent to Trump. In his question, which was more like a loaded screed, he implied the Peace Vigil stored weapons and posed a “national security risk” in Lafayette Park. He further alleged the Vigilers were radical leftists standing against American values, using drugs, and creating a rat-infested space. Melaku-Bello said that none of this is true.
Upon hearing Glenn’s screed, Trump response to his staff was to “Take it down. Take it down today, right now.” Later on Friday after Melaku-Bello learned of the press conference, he extended his shift at the Peace Vigil through Friday night past his scheduled quitting time. He remained there all through Saturday, Saturday night, and he did not leave until early Sunday morning. Melaku-Bello anticipated police would arrive at any minute and he wanted to be there if they did. By Sunday morning it seemed that the threat had passed as no police forces had come.Will Roosien, who had remained with Melaku-Bello throughout the 40-hours’ marathon shift, remained behind as Melaku-Bello left for a break.
Minutes after Melaku-Bello left—after sitting for nearly 2 days straight—U.S. Park Police swept into Lafayette Square and confiscated the blue tarp tent, its frame, and cinder block anchors. Roosien called Melaku-Bello, who immediately returned to join the relief activist, and he continued seated at the Peace Vigil for the third day. He remained at the Vigil as of September 19, 2025, Sunday night at 6 pm.
Led by Phillipo Melaku-Bello, a dozen or so vigilers continued holding onto their court protected spot on the red bricks. Exhausted by a long waiting game, Mulaku-Bello left after holding watch for nearly 40 hours. Just 15 minutes later, when all but one Vigiler was left, Secret Service rushed in and confiscated the tent, its frame and anchors, and all the signs. No weapon was found. There were no drugs. No alcohol. No charges were filed because there was no violation of any statute.
There was no justification for the takedown except that a right wing media report asked Trump about it and Trump ordered that it be removed. No other president had been so threatened by the tent and none other had ordered it removed. In fact the opposite is the case. Several presidents had food brought out to the Vigilers on Thanksgivings past. One president had food brought out with $100 dollar bills taped to the bottom of the plates. During President Obama’s tenure one of his daughters visited the Vigil and spoke to the activists at the tent. She wanted to know about them and encouraged them to continue.
A Brief History Of The Peace Vigilers
The history of those who envisioned a continuous presence outside the White House is a colorful story that could be a novel. Hundreds of activists took part in its 4 1/2 decades timeline. Some are no longer living. Some can only be recalled in photos exhibited on the black wired fence the activists put up to memorialize them.
Historically the Peace Vigil clawed its way into existence by the tireless effort of William Thomas, the vigil’s founder, along with many uncounted peace activists who accompanied him. They set up a continuous protest on June 4, 1981, outside the White House to demonstrate against the nuclear arms race. Their persistence annoyed then President Ronald Reagan. As a result they faced constant police harassment and many arrests because they kept returning to the sidewalk after being released.
After hundreds of arrests, a DC Superior Court Judge ordered that the Peace Vigil could remain which finally enshrined its right to remain across from the White House as long as it met several conditions. The order required the signs not be displayed over 6 feet and that someone always be present at the tent, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, even on holidays.
The Peace Vigil was not expected by anyone to last very long. The Judge and President Reagan didn’t fret about the court order and the Secret Service kept its distance except to watch the stream of activists come and go.
Since the Peace Vigil tent was by order allowed on the sidewalk at Lafayette Square, responsibility to oversee its conformance with the court order fell under the authority of the U.S. Park Police. Lafayette Square is considered a National Park therefore code violations falls under its authority.
But William Thomas had plans for it to last indefinitely and that court order gave him everything he needed. He purchased a property on 12th Street at a property auction, he named it the Peace House. He and a committed group organized around the Peace House and it provided a stable location for activists to rest and refurbish between shifts. Havoa home to organize gave the activists an opportunity to organize more deeply in the community. The Peace House became a Mecca for many activists and campaigns.
The Proposition One Campaign (Prop1) was born of the efforts of the activists at the Peace Vigil. In concert with DC Representative Eleanore Holmes Norton (non-voting) an initiative to void the country of nuclear weapons was proposed 17 times. The latest was in 2025. The proposal never made it out of the House.
After William Thomas died, the Peace House survived until 2016 when it fell into disrepair under the management of some individuals who had stopped supporting the Peace Vigil. It was eventually sold after a long court battle.
Activists continued supporting the Peace Vigil despite the difficulties of transportation and logistics. Some activists were houseless and supported it anyway. By 2025 the Peace Vigil celebrated its 44th anniversary. It lasted through 7 presidents, quite an achievement when considering the Judge who issued the order and the president in office at the time had long since perished. The Peace Vigil message survived.
The spirit of the resistance against nuclear weapons was subsumed by other pressing issues as time passed: world hunger, human rights, Palestinian rights, Tibetan independence, the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, and many other issues took over the signage as the decades passed. But one issue remained constant and that was the right of citizens to speak out in opposition to their elected representatives and government. It was with that spirit the Peace Vigilers returned on Saturday, September 19, for the anniversary of the tent takedown. Even now they refuse to go away though they have to assemble nearly 200 feet from the space permanently granted to them 44 years ago.
The Peace Vigil survived through Presidents Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bull Clinton, George W. Bush, Barak Obama, Donald Trump (First Term), Joe Biden, and Donald Trump (Second Term). It survived because of grit and determination on the part of those who believed ir was something worthy of their time and volunteerism.
Many vigilers learned about people from around the world because it attracted tourists who wanted to know what it meant that a resistance tent was so close to the White House. Then stories would be shared about life in their home countries. Many left with an understanding of what the First Amendment meant in practice because its unique concept was often not something they had been able to experience back in their countries.
Will The Peace Vigil Return?
The future of the Peace Vigil remains uncertain at this time but the Vigilers have committed to keep it alive. Their voices have not been silenced and their spirit is still burning hot. It is hoped that the tide of oppressive government will soon turn in the U.S. At the present, rights are being stripped away daily.
On Sunday, a day after the Vigilers assembled to remember and reflect on their institution, the president banned legacy media outlets CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the West Wing pressroom. On Monday their credentials were confiscated. Of course they will challenge the ban in court.
There was no solid reason given for the ban, only that their reporting did not suit the president’s agenda. And yet it was another violation of the First Amendment, no different than tearing down the court-protected Peace Vigil tent.
None of these news organizations were around to cover the removal of the Peace Vigil Tent last September. They did not speak out for the Peace Vigil or its members. These media organizations were also among those institutions unwilling to challenge the president for his gradual departure from respecting rights when Trump first took office as he began stripping them away in January 2025. Many rights have been stripped from different parties and institutions in different ways.
The legacy press are now beginning to understand the consequences of not having courage to defend their rights for others’ rights sake like that of the Peace Vigil.
Will the Peace Vigil return to the Red Bricks outside the North Portico of the White House? That will depend upon how much the community is willing to fight to get their First Amendment rights restored. The Vigillers cannot do it on their own.

Trump Says Arch Must Be Built Because We Need Somewhere To Store Our Precious ‘Sniper Ammo’
Satire is dead. But it’s been dead since the first Trump administration, back when people were “owning the libs” with a combination of horse dewormers and willfully contracting COVID. Bleach consumption was discussed. It was a whole thing.
Not enough of those people died, apparently. We somehow got a second season of Trump and at this point, it looks like farce may finally have been killed off.
In addition to forming a white Christian nationalist death cult, Trump really wants history to remember him as one of the most self-aggrandizing people to ever serve as President of the United States. He would rather raze the Kennedy Center to the ground than have it continue without his name splashed all over it. He has literally gilded the lily all over DC, sending out his Parks and Rec folks to splash a bunch of gold paint over a bunch of monuments and statues.
In addition to constructing a hideous ballroom apparently inspired by the 1921 July 4th Ball held at the Overlook Hotel, Trump has held a military parade in his own honor and turned the 250th birthday of America into an MMA/White House crossover filled with mandatory attendees.
He also wants his own Arc de Triomphe. But while the French version celebrates the country’s military victories (both of them!) and is generally representative of national pride, Trump’s version would be all about Trump.
The problems are several. First, it’s the subject of litigation. Second, even his own National Park Service has pointed out that it would have an “adverse effect” on nearby historical monuments, including the Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial (the one with the misbehaving pool). Trump’s own FAA expressed some concerns about the proposed arch’s interference with flight paths but ultimately did the let’s-give-Trump-what-he-wants thing and suggested the only alteration be some sort of a warning light on top for planes… perhaps some sort of “eternal flame.” [Vomits involuntarily.]
Trump is struggling to justify building a gaudy piece of white-and-gold bullshit as a paean to his superior mediocrity. So, he’s doing what he always does in situations like these: fire up Truth Social to deliver rants/statements that look like they were composed by someone on a cocaine-and-151 bender.

You’re seeing this too, right? It’s not just me who may or may not be on a cocaine-and-151 bender? This is a guy who thinks everyone respects him just out there on main claiming the “United States Military” has requested he turn his ego stroke of a monument into some sort of immobile war machine.
This sounds like it was written by a seven-year-old to explain the massive amount of hand-drawn violence currently covering the notebook paper he was supposed to be using to show his work during math class. I cannot imagine any healthy adult actually claiming a “triumphal arch” can — or even should! — house “large numbers of drones, plus Snipers… and… large quantities of sniper ammunition.”
Are we supposed to believe the “roof” of the monument will just be launching pads for drones — drones, I might add, that will be launched directly into the flight paths of descending commercial flights arriving at Dulles? Are the snipers just going to live there? Will the two towers of the arc act like extended clips for sniper ammo? Will it just be 250+ feet of belt-fed ammo accessed directly through “Freedom Slits” or whatever the fuck?
And what even is a “top grade Military Complex” in the context of self-gratifying embarrassment of a monument? And if it is actually going to be all of these things, why are we telling everyfuckingbody that we’re building a drones-and-bullets centerpiece in Washington, DC? Won’t that just make it one of the first targets in any invasion/terrorist attack/rummaging for pawnable goods after its erection? Speaking of erections, why can’t we have a president who gets off to normal things, like Marilyn Monroe? Or being cucked by Lorena Hickok?
All I can see now is some sort of drone-encircled, twin-towered .50 cal with Trump branding and a bunch of pissed off guys dressed like Solid Snake doomscrolling social media 250 feet above the ground. If for no other reason than Trump’s own Truth Social post, this abomination should never be constructed. But if we’re going to get blighted by the blightiest of self-declared urbanites, we may as well make it something everyone in the world will instinctively want to destroy.

Gemini pirate 3 entreprises, sans « désalignement »
Le Wall Street Journal a révélé, le 18 septembre 2026, qu’un modèle de Gemini s’était introduit de manière autonome dans les SI de trois entreprises, en mai 2026. Le quotidien américain présente cet incident comme le « premier exemple connu où une IA de Google commet de sa propre initiative ce type d’intrusion ». Google a confirmé les faits, mais a nié tout « désalignement », c’est-à-dire un cas où un modèle s’écarte de ce que ses concepteurs attendent de lui.
L’intrusion a eu lieu lors d’un test mené par une société tierce, Irregular, chargée d’évaluer la sécurité des modèles. Un défaut de paramétrage a laissé Gemini accéder à Internet. Le modèle a alors atteint trois sites Internet : les prenant pour des éléments de son environnement de test, il les a piratés. Mais dès qu’il a identifié ces SI comme appartenant à de véritables entreprises, il s’est arrêté.
Pour Google, Gemini a donc agi conformément aux instructions de ses concepteurs. La firme n’a d’ailleurs publié aucun billet de blog consacré à l’incident.

Shiny Hunters pirate le gang de rançongiciel Cl0p
Le collectif décentralisé de cybercriminels Shiny Hunters affirme avoir piraté le gang de rançongiciel russophone Cl0p et menace de publier des données sensibles si une rançon ne lui est pas versée. Shiny Hunters revendique un « accès complet » au serveur de Cl0p, dont il aurait extrait du code source et des journaux système susceptibles de contenir des adresses IP d’utilisateurs.
Ces données pourraient permettre aux forces de l’ordre de remonter jusqu’aux membres du gang de rançongiciel. Shiny Hunters réclame une part substantielle du butin accumulé par Cl0p ces derniers mois, notamment à la suite du vol de données sensibles dans des environnements Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) en 2025.
À l’origine constitué de cybercriminels opérant en France, Shiny Hunters n’est pas une organisation unique et hiérarchisée. Le collectif fonctionne comme une marque sous laquelle opèrent des groupes aux origines, aux méthodes et aux motivations variées.

“Free Speech” President Admits He’s “Banning The Free Press” From The White House
Apparently autumn is when President Donald Trump feels free to admit to his anti-free speech, anti-free press ways. For a guy who constantly lied about being in support of free speech, despite regularly suing people and news organizations for their speech, he’s been remarkably willing to admit to wanting to abuse power to suppress speech lately. A year ago, he admitted that he “took the freedom of speech away” when he tried to remove the First Amendment protections (something he cannot actually do) regarding flag burning. And last week, when asked about it in the oval office, he admitted that he was “banning the free press”:

Specifically, he’s banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House. (MS NOW, for anyone who missed the rebrand, is the network formerly known as MSNBC.) If you didn’t see it, he (naturally) announced the ban with no due process on his personal propaganda and grift site, Truth Social:

Yes, you’re very proud to announce yet another attack on free speech and the free press. Also, the whole “$8 million dollar subscription” thing is a bullshit misreading of subscriptions taken out by many different individuals and agencies across the federal government to Politico’s subscription offering.
Of course, all this is unconstitutional. We know this because we’ve been through this before. In his first term he banned a couple of reporters from the White House for asking questions he didn’t like, and he lost in court.
In this case, the White House has already denied access to reporters from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico:
Reporters for CNN, MS NOW and Politico said they were denied access to the White House grounds Saturday, a day after President Donald Trump said the three news organizations were banned from the location.
The fact that this is such an extreme and obvious attack on speech doesn’t much matter to Trump or his MAGA supporters, who are already making up all sorts of excuses about how this is perfectly normal and fine.
They’re lying.
And we know they’re lying. We know it from Trump’s own first term, and we know it from Obama’s first term, when many of these same people lost their minds over something far less egregious: avoiding having administration officials appear on Fox News, claiming the network was “a wing of the Republican Party.” After widespread complaints about this, including from other White House reporters, the White House backed down and made officials available to Fox News again.
Years later, Tom Fitton’s Judicial Watch FOIA’d the White House emails about all this and spun them into another round of stories about Obama officials making jokes at Fox News’ expense.
“The Obama administration seems to have lied about its attempt to exclude Fox News Channel from access to an interview with the ‘pay czar,'” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement.
Fitton told Fox News the White House treatment was “something Hugo Chavez might do but it really has no place in modern-day America.”
Rather than condemning Trump’s action, Fitton went on X and posted a link about the Obama story, leaving out every detail that makes the two situations different. So, to be clear: Trump has fully banned three top news orgs from the White House. In 2009, the Obama administration thought about excluding Fox News from a pool of reporters to interview a mid-level administration official, and then backed down almost immediately when the rest of the media industry complained. To Tom Fitton, these are apparently the same thing:
As always, with MAGA folks, the hypocrisy is the policy. Trump and his supporters love showing off about how they get away with breaking the rules that they would never allow a Democrat to break. To them it’s a form of “owning the libs.”
Also, what a weird group of news orgs to exclude. CNN has spent years bending over backwards to try to sanewash nearly everything that Trump has done. They regularly platform liars like Scott Jennings to spew Trump’s false talking points. Meanwhile, Politico is owned by Axel Springer, whose CEO, Mathias Döpfner, has spent years platforming far-right political figures from Viktor Orban to Elon Musk, and has repeatedly supported Donald Trump. He even wrote an ass-kissing piece in Politico (now banned from the White House) as a kind of open letter to the EU, that they should give Trump what he wants: “Trump wants a strong Europe — and Europe should listen.”
And his reward: having his journalists banned from the White House.
Why, it’s almost as if sucking up to the petty, thin-skinned authoritarian in the White House is no guarantee that he won’t turn around and punish you for saying something he dislikes.
Unsurprisingly, CNN, Politico, and MSNOW sued earlier this morning.
This ban could not be a more direct assault on the First Amendment nor a more blatant violation of our most fundamental constitutional principles. Presidents from the earliest days of the Republic have disagreed with and complained about the tenor and content of press coverage of their administrations. But as the Supreme Court has recognized, the First Amendment, including its guarantee of a free press, reflects “a profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open, and that it may well include vehement, caustic, and sometimes unpleasantly sharp attacks on government and public officials.” New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254, 270 (1964). And the Constitution protects the liberty and property interests that news organizations and White House reporters have in their press credentials and the access those credentials afford them to cover the White House for the benefit of the public. No official can deprive Plaintiffs of those interests on a whim—with no notice, no process, and no warning—as the President did here.
As Trump’s health and political power begin to wane, we’re starting to see major media companies display what can only be described as the faint outline of a backbone. We’ve seen it with ABC’s lawsuit against the FCC for its bogus censorship efforts. And we’re also seeing it here, as numerous major media outlets say they’re cutting off all coverage of presidential events due to the ban:

Perhaps realizing that his own statements on “banning the free press” are likely to look bad in court, Trump went back to Truth Social this morning as well to insist that when he said he was “banning the free press” he didn’t actually mean a ban on the free press:

It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America. It is corrupt, purposeful, pervasive, fully coordinated, and totally out of control. It is a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped, NOW! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP
Which… is not how any of this works. The whole point of the First Amendment is that no government official, let alone the president, gets to decide what is good reporting and what is “fake news.” Because the second a government officials gets to make that determination is the second the First Amendment is nothing but a dead letter.
As Trump gets more afraid of his own embarrassing political and existential collapse, he’ll only lash out further. But the threats will increasingly carry less weight; particularly if the midterms deliver a lame duck president. And again, while intended to portray strength, they’ll only demonstrate growing fear and weakness by a dim authoritarian narcissist clearly approaching the end of the line.
At this point no one serious still believes that Trump is “the free speech president,” but calling out each of his increasingly erratic censorial attacks on free speech is still important in reminding everyone that this is not normal, not constitutional, and absolutely not in support of free speech.

“If It’s What You Say I Love It,” Especially If You Bring Ball of Thread Back
In honor of Don Jr’s oligarch-funded wedding fireworks and my long-delayed explanation of how I think of corruption as a process, LOLGOP and I are reissuing our Ball of Thread Series from a few years back. We did about a dozen episodes that began before 2016 and ended with Kash Patel’s confirmation in early 2025, tracing how the polarization seeded in 2016 led us to the brink of fascism.
Episode 1 covers how I understand the 2016 Russian attack to include not just several attempts to recruit Americans and stoke polarization, but also laying the groundwork for three parallel attacks on the Deep State.
By the time Kash visits Moscow this October, we should be past the point in the series where he enters the story with his MAGA-career-making effort to make the entire Trump/Russia investigation about the Steele dossier and the fucking pee tape.
Here’s more context for why we’re doing this now:
As we roll this out we want to foster more discussion about this, in conjunction with a LOLGOP Studio pledge drive (so he and I can keep doing these videos).
We’re going to see if this will work: Every week, we’ll post a re-released episode on my YouTube channel, if we can manage it, before end of day Friday. Then, we’ll post a YouTube short promoting the episode with some context like the one above. I’ll put up a post here with the video and the short. And you can comment with your questions or “more of a comment than a question.”
Then LOLGOP and I will record a conversation on that episode about what I got right, what we missed, and what matters most now — kind of like we did with a discussion of whether you should get the fuck off Xitter (you should, but I have not). We’ll also answer your questions about any other videos, current Trump/Russia nonsense, and Michigan in general. Maybe we’ll do episode by episode or in batches. There is an election going on.
This effort also supports the first LOLGOP Studios Pledge Drive.

« J’ai honte d’être vu avec ma mère en fauteuil » : validisme sur le service public
Mercredi 16 septembre 2026, dans l’émission « Le Grand Portrait » de France Inter, Guillaume de Tonquédec détaille la honte d’être aux cotés de sa mère handicapée. Sous couvert de franchise, on assiste à une expression décomplexée de violence validiste. Inacceptable.
Voici la lettre que nous avons adressé à la médiation de France Inter :
Nous, Les Dévalideuses, collectif handiféministe et antivalidiste, souhaitons signaler formellement le contenu de l’entretien diffusé le mercredi 16 septembre 2026 dans « Le Grand Portrait », animé par Sonia Devillers, avec Guillaume de Tonquédec à l’occasion de la parution de « Ta mère et moi ».
Nous ne contestons ni le droit d’un auteur à raconter son histoire familiale, ni la légitimité du sujet de l’aidance, qui concerne effectivement des millions de personnes. Ce que nous signalons, c’est le traitement éditorial de cet entretien : pendant vingt minutes, sur la première radio de France et dans le cadre d’une mission de service public, des propos ouvertement validistes ont été énoncés, relancés, reformulés et amplifiés par la journaliste, sans qu’à aucun moment ils ne soient interrogés, contextualisés ou contredits.
Ce qui ne va pas, précisément
- Une journaliste qui énonce le validisme à son propre compte.
À 07:24, Sonia Devillers déclare : « tout simplement vous ne supportez pas les handicapés, ils vous font honte ». Cette phrase n’est pas une citation attribuée, c’est une formulation de la journaliste, à l’antenne, au présent, avec l’expression essentialisante « les handicapés ». Elle est présentée comme une évidence partagée (« tout simplement »), c’est-à-dire comme un lieu commun légitime. Sur France Inter, à 9h du matin, cela signifie très concrètement : votre existence est une honte, et cela va de soi.
- Une honte non contredite, transformée en vertu d’honnêteté.
L’invité confirme : « j’ai honte de voir ma mère en fauteuil roulant », « j’ai honte d’être vu à côté d’elle dans la rue ». La journaliste ne relance pas ; elle valorise ce propos comme de l’« honnêteté » et de la « franchise ». Le résultat éditorial est un blanchiment : le sentiment de honte à l’égard d’une femme handicapée devient un acte de courage, jamais un problème social à interroger. Une seule question aurait suffi, « qu’est-ce que cette honte dit du regard de la société, et qu’est-ce que cela fait à votre mère de l’entendre ? », et elle n’a pas été posée.
- Un lexique déshumanisant, répété et jamais questionné.
« Handicapés ou malades » réduits à « la charge de l’autre » (00:30), « ces parents diminués » (06:36), « même diminuée » (18:33), « la maladie c’est moche » (08:10), le mot « moche » appliqué au diagnostic et repris en boucle (02:44-02:50), « la maladie m’a volé mes parents » (06:55). Une personne handicapée y est successivement une charge, une personne amoindrie, une laideur, et une absente, quelqu’un qui a été « volé » aux vivants alors qu’elle est vivante. C’est exactement le registre de la mort sociale, et il est diffusé sans une seule mise à distance.
- Une femme handicapée entièrement privée de statut de sujet.
Marie-Christine de Tonquédec est parlée, décrite, racontée, jamais entendue. Le récit organise sa disparition en tant que personne pour la transformer en support d’un hommage à son mari : rester avec elle est « le sacrifice », « le renoncement », « la plus grande preuve d’amour ». Le titre même retenu par France Inter pour l’émission consacre ce cadrage. Ce que ce cadre dit implicitement, et que personne ne relève, c’est qu’aimer une femme handicapée relève de l’héroïsme, donc que la quitter serait compréhensible, donc que sa vie a une valeur moindre. Pour les personnes handicapées en couple, et particulièrement pour les femmes handicapées, ce message est violent et il est banalisé quotidiennement.
- Aucun contradictoire, aucune personne directement concernée, aucun cadrage politique.
À aucun moment l’émission ne donne la parole à une personne handicapée, ni ne mobilise l’expertise des personnes concernées. À aucun moment n’est évoqué ce qui explique réellement l’épuisement des proches aidants : l’insuffisance de l’aide humaine et de la compensation, les restes à charge, la pénurie de professionnelLEs, le défaut d’accessibilité, l’absence de politique publique d’autonomie. Le sujet est intégralement rabattu sur l’intime et le sacrificiel, ce qui dépolitise une question de droits fondamentaux et laisse penser que la solution est l’abnégation familiale et non l’effectivité des droits garantis par la Convention des Nations unies relative aux droits des personnes handicapées, que la France a ratifiée.
Pourquoi ce n’est pas acceptable de la part d’un service public
France Inter compte plusieurs millions d’auditeurices chaque matin. Parmi elleux, des personnes handicapées, des enfants handicapés, des parents, des conjointEs. Ces propos leur ont appris, dans leur cuisine ou dans leur lit, qu’être vues à côté d’elles fait honte. Le validisme n’est pas un point de vue : c’est une discrimination, et l’entendre validée par une journaliste du service public produit des effets mesurables, honte intériorisée, isolement, renoncement à sortir, renoncement aux soins, sur-risque suicidaire déjà documenté dans notre communauté.
Cette diffusion intervient de surcroît dans un contexte de débats publics sur l’aide à mourir où les représentations de la « vie diminuée » ont des conséquences directes. Une radio publique qui laisse dire, sans contrepoint, que le handicap vole une vie et fait honte, contribue à ce climat en pleine conscience éditoriale : un entretien enregistré, monté, titré et publié en podcast avec transcription n’est pas un dérapage de direct. C’est un choix, à chaque étape.

Nous rappelons enfin que le cahier des charges de Radio France assigne à l’entreprise une mission de représentation juste de la diversité de la société française et de lutte contre les discriminations, dont celles fondées sur le handicap.
Ce que nous demandons
- Une réponse écrite de la médiatrice et de la direction de France Inter sur les choix éditoriaux de cette séquence, en particulier sur la formulation « vous ne supportez pas les handicapés, ils vous font honte » ;
- Un traitement public de ce signalement dans l’espace de médiation des antennes ;
- Une séquence de réparation à antenne équivalente (même émission, même créneau), donnant la parole à des personnes handicapées et à des collectifs concernés, sur les proches aidantEs comme défaut de politique publique ;
- La modification du titre de l’émission et de l’épisode en podcast, ainsi qu’un avertissement éditorial en tête de la page de diffusion ;
- La mise en place d’une formation à l’antivalidisme pour les équipes éditoriales de la matinale, à laquelle notre collectif et d’autres organisations de personnes concernées sont disponibles pour contribuer.
