The 2nd International Conference on the Just Transition Away from Fossil Fuels will take place in the Pacific in July 2027.

The Conference is designed as a space for countries, subnational governments, Indigenous peoples and a diverse global cohort of sectors that recognise the need to implement a transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly and equitable manner, in line with the international legal obligation to limit warming to 1.5ºC.

The Conference is guided by participation by those ready to move forward, recognising this as a space focused on action and international cooperation. Implementation will serve as our guiding star, based on the shared scientific certainty that accelerating the just transition from fossil fuels is essential to upholding human rights, and addressing the triple planetary crisis: climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. This means a focus on international cooperation and action rather than further diagnosis and dialogue, and focusing on solutions that meaningfully support the transition rather than delay it.

    REGISTRATION

HISTORIC 1ST CONFERENCE IN SANTA MARTA

From 24 to 29 April 2026, Colombia and the Netherlands co-hosted the 1st International Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, establishing an important new space for international cooperation on delivering a just, orderly and equitable transition away from fossil fuels.

The conference, held in the coal port city of Santa Marta, convened 57 countries and more than 1000 representatives of key sectors and non-state actors to advance the transition away from fossil fuels.

Over the course of five days, countries and representatives from 14 sectors created a historic platform for dialogue and action on advancing a just, orderly, and equitable transition away from fossil fuels.
