Living memory of Switzerland for everyone
The Swiss National Library (NL) collects “Helvetica” – Swiss texts, images and sounds – and with its collections safeguards the collective memory of Switzerland. In collaboration with other institutions, it facilitates extensive access to the cultural heritage of the country. As a central memory institution, the National Library bridges the past via the present to the future.

Baugesuch für die Schweizerische Nationalbibliothek in Bern eingereicht
Bern, 10.09.2026 — Das Bundesamt für Bauten und Logistik BBL hat das Baugesuch für die Sanierung und Erweiterung der Schweizerischen Nationalbibliothek in Bern eingereicht. Aufgrund der bevorstehenden Bauarbeiten ziehen die Nationalbibliothek und das Bundesamt für Kultur etappenweise bis Ende November 2026 an einen provisorischen Standort um. Der Baubeginn ist für 2027 vorgesehen.
