"But the people saying this are weirdos" is a bad counter to any argument. In the context of AI it's outright baffling. The Tech Model Railroad Club was weird. The phone phreaks were weird. The Homebrew Computer Club was weird. Stallman and the crew at MIT AI lab were weird.
