AgentMail is an email inbox API for AI agents. Each agent gets a real, persistent inbox provisioned in one API call. It supports two-way conversations with threading, attachments, and real-time inbound webhooks.
Every AgentMail inbox is a persistent mailbox. Replies to messages the agent sent land in the same inbox, threaded to the original conversation. A webhook fires on inbound mail, so the agent can respond without polling.
The Gmail API reads a human user's inbox and requires OAuth to a Google account. AgentMail provisions a new dedicated inbox for each agent in one API call, with no OAuth and no user account required. It's built to scale to thousands of agent identities per organization.
SendGrid, Mailgun, and Postmark are transactional email APIs, optimized for outbound sends. AgentMail is built around the inbox itself. Each agent has its own persistent mailbox with threading, attachments, and inbound webhooks. Both inbound and outbound are first-class.
Every agent gets its own dedicated inbox with its own address, authentication, and message store. Pods group inboxes by tenant, isolating data access between groups. CarEdge runs 25,000+ inboxes on AgentMail handling millions of messages.
Email is a globally verifiable address. When each agent has its own inbox, it has a stable identity that can sign up for tools, receive verifications, and hold an audit trail of its actions. This keeps agent activity separate from any human's account.
AgentMail fires webhooks on inbound events like message received, message delivered, and message bounced. Webhooks are signed for verification and retry on non-2xx responses. Configure them per-inbox via the API or dashboard.
Deliverability depends on domain authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), sender reputation, and content quality. AgentMail configures authentication automatically for @agentmail.to inboxes.
