Use of emoncms.org

Emoncms.org is part of the OpenEnergyMonitor project.

Getting started

To start posting data to your account see the API documentation. For guides on setting up OpenEnergyMonitor hardware see the OpenEnergyMonitor documentation.

Usage based billing

Emoncms.org has a usage based pricing model in order to fund server costs, maintenance and development.
See pricing page for current pricing information.

When you login to your emoncms.org accounts you will see account costs and balance over time shown on the My Account page.

Emoncms is fully open source and can be self-hosted free of charge, see the emoncms github repository. Our EmonPi/Base/HP energy monitors also come with emoncms pre-installed for easy local logging.

Emoncms.org credit can be purchased in the OpenEnergyMonitor online shop here: Emoncms.org Credit. Enter your OpenEnergyMonitor shop email address in the 'Activate Emoncms Credit' section on your emoncms.org account page to access your credit.

What happens if your balance runs out?

If your account goes into negative balance you will see a billing notice when you log in, with instructions on how to top up. Nothing else changes at this point - your account and data continue to work as normal.

If the account remains in negative balance for more than 3 months, we assume that you no longer wish to keep the account and you will see an account termination notice with a final date, giving you at least 2 further weeks to top up. After this date the account is archived and a couple of weeks later the account data is removed.

Topping up at any point before the account data is removed clears the process and restores full access - if your account has been archived and you would like it restored, get in contact.

If you no longer wish to use emoncms.org you can delete your account from the My Account page at any time, there is no need to settle a negative balance. You may wish to download your data first, see backing up your data below.

Recommended maximum post rate

10s, please keep the brakes on the update rate of your sensor nodes!

Backing up your data

To backup your energy data use the guide here Emoncms backup

Emoncms.org also implements a daily data backup. In the event of server failure we currently expect restoration to take 3-4 days during which there may be loss of data posted during such an unplanned downtime.

Your data

We will not use your data for advertisment purposes or sell it on to anyone else. You can port your data to another server and you can delete feed data permanently from the emoncms.org server as you require.

Account requirements

Accounts must be held by someone aged 18 or over. Young people are welcome to use emoncms.org for school projects or to monitor their own home, but the account should be registered to a parent, guardian or teacher, who remains responsible for it.

Privacy policy

Our privacy policy can be read here: Emoncms.org Privacy Policy

If you do not agree with the emoncms.org terms of use or privacy policy. Please delete your account to stop using the service.

Last but not least

We hope emoncms.org is useful for you!

We would love to hear how you use it, particularly any stories about monitoring and understanding zero carbon energy systems.
