i am a therian cat (and one of those timeline cats) - you can call me luke. id number 429371.

i'm interested in all things tech! mostly on the software/sysadmin side of things; i run this instance and therian.zone.

i'm currently working on:
- snowdrop, a mastoapi app for ios/android
- miscellaneous contributions to Iceshrimp.NET
- getting through the summer

...so expect many posts to do with those. :3

@anselmschueler if you've tried to work on the codebase before you can see it's kind of a nightmare. it's basically unmaintainable right now, at least the pre-rewrite branch. the rewrite is essentially just updated on a more recent version of the upstream mastodon-android, which has quite different design, and the moshidon rewrite hasn't had much activity anyway. that plus the want for a good ios app are the main motivators

hi fedi!

me and my girlfriend (@blueb) have been working on a new fedi (mastodon api) client for both Android and iOS, inspired by how moshidon looked pre-rewrite.

the ultimate goal for this project is both a maintainable moshidon replacement (in kotlin with compose multiplatform) as well as a decent free iOS client for fedi, because the only decent ones right now are paid/subscription based.

the first alpha release for android has been published if you'd like to check it out! github.com/ihateblueb/snowdrop/releases/tag/0.0.1-alpha

note that the client is quite incomplete at the moment, so expect bugs and instability. we plan to make it available to iOS users fairly soon, but right now if you want to try it on an iPhone you need to build it yourself.

i genuinely didn't think this was a real thing when i first saw this picture but it absolutely is and it scares me

edit: apparently these are called "dadc longboxes" or "longboxes" or whatever. in case you want to look at more of these for some reason

ok due to interest in how i got minecraft legacy console edition running in windows here's a rough guide (this is working for me in windows 11):

- obtain the source code
- download visual studio 2012 from download.microsoft.com/download/d/b/0/db03922c-ff91-4845-b7f2-fc68595ab730/vs2012_ult_enu.iso and use license key YKCW6-BPFPF-BT8C9-7DCTH-QXGWC
- open the solution (MinecraftConsoles.sln)
- hit no when it asks about version control, hit ok on the next dialog
- near the top where it says "Local Windows Debugger" and has a dropdown that says "Debug", go into the dropdown and pick "Configuration Manager..."
- change "Active Solution Platform" to "Windows64", set "Active Solution Configuration" to "Debug", and tick both boxes under "Build" (if it doesn't build try setting the configuration to "Release" instead of "Debug")
- compile by doing Build at the top of the window then Build Solution
- when it's done building run by right clicking the "Minecraft.Client" solution in the "Solution Explorer" panel, then go to "Debug" -> "Start new instance"

it's also worth mentioning that the game doesn't work with keyboard and mouse and you will need to either use an xbox controller of some sort or use an emulator. i don't have a controller on hand but was able to use this software to set up a virtual controller sourceforge.net/projects/vjoy-controller/

edit: you may need the windows sdk as well, i had visual studio 2026 installed before i did this but you may not have some deps you need

no this is. this is the worst
someone holding an old phone with a replaceable battery area. the cover for that is removed and you can see a tiny battery clearly not intended for this particular phone that's propped up but cut pieces of a pencil are holding it in place so the battery contacts connect and the phone works

year and a half later behind the scenes on this image. this was taken in a grocery store, i took all of these that i could find in an attempt to one-up harper's picture; i didn't buy them and put em back. there were actually not that many and some were like a different kind. you can see that in this image with one of the little containers in the back which has some red on the label that's not on the others.. i specifically arranged them to hide those but i guess missed that

why does the PNG logo go so fucking hard
