so, turns out when you mess with things enough without knowing what you're doing, you eventually manage to get to the point where you finally understand things a little bit. all this to say i am incredibly surprised i have managed to not break anything horribly so far in the handful of commits i have pushed to this site! i might be a bit proud of myself.
