You guys were so generous. You are the best and I'm so, so grateful to you all *smooches*

Dammit, I'm tearing up!

To my mum and dad, for just being there this year. And the oven! Love the oven!

To my lovely husband, for putting up with me, and my children for being [mostly] good.

To those who I've met recently on Absolutel Write and welcomed me into the <s>bordello</s> fold.

And lastly... what I can say? Lani, meeting you was a bright light in an otherwise very dark year. Thank you, for putting up with a slightly deranged fangirl, for being quite simply wonderful (if a little scatty!) and for giving me a memory that I will treasure for a long, long time. Bless you, and I hope you're still enjoying the keyring *giggles*

All the best to you all.
Nothing to to report morning-wise - I got a shower and then we went out to breakfast. I should have photos of LA, but I was a Bad Tourist and haven't. My bad.

After lunch, I went down to the vendors’ area to acclimatise myself further to Lani and there was small matter of The Painting to pick up from Jean (I have to admit that in the running of important things, the painting ran a very close second to meeting Lani, lmao)

So I spoke to Jean first, but the reselling of one of his babies kinda of got his attention. I was scrutinised for suitability. I didn’t ask if I passed... *g*

Anyway I now have Compression. It’s just so gorgeous; darker than the print, but beautiful in the depth of colour and texture. And he sat there and said it was one of his favourites, which made me all gah. I think I cooed over it enough though.

Then five seconds later, he was humming something under his breath and broke out into "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" and... look, I'm a mum of five; Christmas is a naughty word before 1st December. So... I... um... kindofsnarked. "No, it bloody isn't!" I snapped. "S'too early."

*coughs*

Then I browsed his artwork. I bought a print of “State of Grace” and he was telling me where it was painted. I love this about Lani - he remembers each one and they all come with a story. It was painted in New Zealand. He told me about how the storm clouds would gather over the ocean and how the sun would catch them in a certain way... and there I was, blissing out, when he mentioned that the cliff top did sometimes get hit by lightning.

Well, that snapped me right out of bliss and I stared at him. “That would make things... interesting,” I said weakly and he laughed. I was sort of amused, but more terrified at how blasé he can be. He just has no sense of self-preservation.

I chickened out of giving him the con book at that point, but I went and got a photo of Gigi for H, and I bought one of Crais, so I had to go back and get those signed. Gigi was the sweetest thing ever and she covered H’s photo, putting “I can’t believe you frelling stood me up”. Can't wait to give that to him *g*

But Lani loved the prints of Em’s stuff. I gave him the comic scene she did, and then the comic cover, which she’d printed out for me but... well, I knew he’d love it and I guess I’m a soft touch. I stood there and watched his face as he read the comic, which was exactly what I wanted to do from the moment Em posted it. He thought it was so funny. I like being right *beams*

I gave him the con book and he was suitably impressed with the con book, though he did ask if he could open it. I told him yeah, and that was kind of the point. I was a little shaky though, cos I’d intended being far, far away when he read my entry, but he only glanced through. Though he did comment on the artwork and I swear the sound of my brain coming to an abrupt halt was audible when he wowed over mine. I suppose I should have told him, but honestly? Nothing was coming out of my mouth.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t as adjusted to the time difference as I thought and as I stood up (I’d been leaning on the table, watching his reactions) the room kinda spun slowly. Since fainting in front of him would have been embarrassing to say the least, I told him I had to go crash and beat a retreat. It hit me really hard and fast, which was quite frightening actually, and I was shaking a lot by the time I got upstairs. Since I had the photo op to get through, I did crash and slept for a couple of hours, after which I felt better. More so when I’d eaten something.

The photo op was very quick. But I didn’t giggle or act like a demented fangirl, but there was no one to witness my coherency, which was a shame. But I got to put my arm around him *glees* (I am so asking for a hug before I leave).

comments

It is still Thursday? God, between getting up at 6am and a 12 hour plane flight over... um some time zones, I have list all sense of time. Never had that good a grip on it anyhoo......

Set off earlier than we’d planned cos H needed to get petrol and I wanted to find a plug adapter. This turned on to be a Good Thing, because it was raining hard and the roads were busy. Did Tesco and ASDA, then got to the airport at just after 10am. I booked in despite that and went into the lounge, spending an hour writing NaNo fic.

The plane took off a little ahead of schedule... and I was a total nervous wreck all the way through. So much so, I rang H from Heathrow and told him that I didn’t think I was going to be able to go through with flying to the US. I just couldn't see how I could cope.

It took every amount of nerve and thinking a certain name over and over before I managed to board. I was antsy for about two, maybe three hours, but I eventually settled down. Though the 10 hour 53 minute flight certainly wasn’t pleasant in other ways; they were having trouble with the air con and it was hot - not good when you’re already suffering a touch of air sickness.

But there were highlights; a gorgeous orange moon, almost full, the rose over the horizon, and the mountains in Greenland, which must be so tall to be visible so clearly from 33K feet. The day-chaser flight also meant we had a constant sunset, which was incredible.

Landed and got through customs fine. Catching the shuttle was interesting, but I managed it and got to the hotel. I couldn’t book in, cos Cindy hadn’t registered yet, and my ears were blocked, particularly my right (which I’d had issues with at P2) so I hung back, cos I couldn’t hear.

With all that and showing no sense of timing, Lani walked through the lobby.

He was about 10 foot away and Cindy was yelling at Jean and pointing at me. I cringed and found the table fascinating, because talking to him whilst sweaty from a flight and half deaf was so what I had in mind for a first meeting

However that didn’t mean I couldn’t look...

He was wearing jeans and a t-shirt and his glasses and... oh my God. For a man in his fifties, he looks so fucking good. I was quite happy to sit and ogle, quite frankly. Plus, it gave me chance to adjust to the fact he was there. Like right there. Guh.

I caught up with a couple of people I wanted to meet. Sarah (demeter) nearly squeezed the life out of me, because she was apparantly convinced I wasn’t going to make it. I did tell her that I nearly didn’t...

She was another person antsing for me to chat to Lani, who made a reappearance that I completely missed. But I still couldn’t hear much and I know he can be quiet, so there was no way in hell I was going over.

And I have this thing where if they’re wandering around outside the convention areas they’re on their own time and therefore it’s down to them to approach me and not the other way around. Colour me weird.

“Oh, you missed him,” she said as he left again. So I glanced round and... well, let's just say that walking away presents a certain opportunity and this was me......

“Oh, I’m not missing anything,” I replied, my eyes on a very particular part. Which might be considered a bit bad but a) he was far enough away that he wasn’t going to hear and b) I had sat through a ten-hour flight for him.

I wnet to bed fairly soon after that, because I was pretty dead.

comments

Frell but Bialar could be stubborn at times! She knew this - knew it well - but sometimes he would hit a whole new level of stubborn that left her with the urge to throttle him. Since she didn’t really want to do that on account of for some reason actually liking him rather a lot (when he wasn’t being impossible) she’d opted for some discrete space in which to rant to herself and get stupidly drunk.

comments

That's as much as I've got, lol.

My considered opinion is that it doesn't matter *nods seriously and ogles some more*

comments

If I ever needed evidence that such a thing is a waste of my time, then this has been it.

I am so damned tired. Of writing articles that almost no one comments on. Of answering the same fucking questions over and over. Of dealing with people incapable of thinking for themselves.

I warily joined JulNo, opting to go with a different name than usual, because I'd rather not be asked to do modding duties.
