ROCKIT unites students at KIT to build rocket propulsion and flight systems, combining hands-on experience and academic knowledge.
At the heart of ROCKIT lies an iterative in-house engineering approach. We design, manufacture, and test all rocket subsystems, testbed rigs, and custom avionics.
Hopper is a reusable vertical-takeoff-and-landing rocket designed to demonstrate autonomous flight and precision landing capabilities. The vehicle combines a gimbaled propulsion system with custom avionics and guidance, navigation, and control systems to actively control its attitude and trajectory during flight.
| Height | approx. 2.50 m |
| Wet Mass | approx. 25 kg fully fueled |
| Propellants | Nitrous Oxide (N₂O) & Ethanol |
| Flight Duration | 30 – 45 seconds |
| Avionics | Custom Avionics Stack for State Estimation and Control |
Grown from 5 to 40+ motivated students in just 1.5 years. Structured into 5 specialized subteams under experienced student leadership.
Designs, builds, tests, and continuously improves our rocket engines and the supporting propulsion systems required for reliable and reusable flight.
Develops the electronics, embedded software, communication systems, and onboard computers that enable autonomous control, telemetry, and reliable operation of the vehicle.
Designs, manufactures, and validates the vehicle’s structural components, ensuring they repeatedly withstand the loads encountered during operation.
