Mockingbird by liz_88 in The Bluejay Series

How has this hardly any hits, let alone kudos? The first story (shoot all the bluejays) was so brilliant and this is just as wonderful. Is it because the main character is Misha? Because if that's the case, folks are robbing themselves of a terrific experience. Read it, because the writing is *excellent*> This woman can tell a story!

comments

I feel a weee teeny bit guilty for not playing this year, but mostly, relief at not having a deadline, while blowing off my self-imposed deadline for my wip. yay?

Congrats to all the champions who made it to the finish line, and love to the artists who make it all beautiful! ♥

comments

I think we're finally getting to the end of the covid nightmare in the house. BG and the Small Prince are both feeling better, Mr. R and I are both still good. Fingers crossed that next week will be back to normal.

The dog continues to press my last nerve, but I'm not a baby person, so there you have it. He's really, really excitable. I'm not used to that in a dog. Our first dog was unnaturally reserved, our second dog's philosophy was "Life sucks, screw you, unless you have food in which case, screw you but feed me. Now leave me alone." Our little Thug Life. ♥

Our third dog was quiet, contemplative, very serious about life and also a bit reserved but so beloved that it's hard for me to make room in my heart. I'm sure it will come, but with every day with the new dog, I miss our little gentleman even more.

And SIZE!! those guys were tiny, Papillions, all of them. This thing seems like a moose to me. I'm sure other people would see him as a small dog, (he's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) but to me he is a furry tank. At least it feels that way when he hits the back of your knees. This is not a dog for frail people--he's lively and smart and possessed by the devil and needs LOTS of play. He's also super cute and unreal photogenic, but man, he is a handful. Well, all babies grow up, right? :D And grumpy old ladies eventually soften. *grrr*

comments

This month is nearly over! Where has it gone? May is right on the corner and all the things I was going to do are like smoke.

I did see Jensen live and in the flesh. That was a thrill! I swore this was going to be my last con, but maybe I might have one more in me, lol! It was nice to see I wasn't the oldest person there. Real life fandom is so forgiving, as opposed to Twitter fandom. The children of the bird all seem to think you should crawl off and die when you hit 25. Ha! Little do they know without these "oldsters", all stories would be aimless PWPs, and all art would feature woobified versions of the characters they claim to love.

Okay, no, that's not true, but sometimes I feel like it is.

So, how about these pirates in love? Is there going to be a major shift towards them, or a temporary one? What do we call it when a show drops, takes over the world and then quietly fizzles? Flash fandom? I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with these interesting fellows, but I'm still not motivated by anyone except Sam and Dean. We'll see! :D

I'm in a chatty mood today. I hope I can translate that into being chatty on my wip.

comments

Finally saw Captain America: Civil War, because you know I don't like to just leap into a thing. Anyway, I understand all you Bucky/Cap people. I can see that he's a very attractive character in terms of writing, kind of like early Dean was--all the possibilities.

The movie was fun, could have used some vicious editing. It was nice to see Vision, was a *huge* fan back in the old days, loved that character. I was an angst hoor even in my distant youth, and Vision fit the bill for me. Not as much in the movies, not yet, but here's hoping. :)

Anyhoo, it was fun, and I'm tempted to read some Bucky fics, besides what my beloved writes. Maybe. I still can't see Chris whatisname without thinking that they cast him because they couldn't get Jensen, ha! I've watched a few of those flicks now, and honestly, I think Jensen's the better actor. The better physical actor as well. There must have been something Chris wazizname had that led them to consider him over everyone else, (I'm pretty sure that Ackles was never really in the running, no matter what fandom thinks) but I'm not getting it. He's pleasant enough, just...not quite there for me. Then again, Cap was never a fav of mine to begin with. Whatevs, I like the idea of intense UST between him and Bucky. :D

comments

I'm equal parts excited and nervous. There's the potential to really knock it out of the park, or be so bad and not what I want that it's terrifying. The addition of Lady Ican'tstandthatbitch into the bunker makes me uneasy, if by uneasy we mean if this itchnay becomes a "friend" to the Winchesters ala Meg or Crowley, I will freak the eff out.

I. You know, even if you don't get who these giant strangers are, they're family. This woman abandoned the boys and lied about it to herself. Trying to make the world safe for them to do what they want? Hmm. She didn't even ask them. As per show, she never sat down and asked them to explain, never explained herself, never tried to treat them like rational human beings who just might get where she's coming from. Do other fandoms rely on fanfic as hard as we do to explain what's going on?

People, if my favs get iced, then I'm going to be one very fucking unhappy roxy.

I'll let you know what's up on the other side

comments

So I've been bouncing around the big bang postings, reading here and there and thought I'd share a few I liked. I don't have any gen on the list yet because I haven't read any yet, I save the gen and the Not My OTPstories to the end of postings. Here are a few J2 and Sam/Dean stories you might enjoy. I plan to post a few more recs but I plan that every year and never follow through…hah! Anyhoo, behold my recs!

143 Alice Grim Lane by runedgirl

This story has everything.
So I did that football thing yesterday, that Superbowl thing, which turned out not as horrible as I thought it would be. Ya'll know I'm a spoiled little princess, right? No, really, hard to believe I know, but there you have it, so anyhoo, I was feeling under the weather, and when we arrived, I got spoiled even worse than you can imagine. I got a fluffy blanket and a glass of ginger ale and lots of hugs. I'd feel bad about that, but it's not in the Princess Handbook.

So, a team won, and it was an exciting engagement, I believe. I came away from the event with these thoughts--Tom Brady's straight? Riilly? Some of those guys had extremely nice posteriors, which Mr R was quick to point out was padding in that adorably oh so catty way he has, but please--Yer Mother can tell from padding. MIA--what did anyone think was going to happen? Madonna looked pretty good and the show was much less cheesy than I'd expected. All in all, I'd have been happier to stay home and read some Wincest classics but it was...okay. The best part was my niece volunteering to go along and keep me <s>sane</s> company. She's such a good girl. :)

The hosts were more than kind, the food, what I could eat, was good, the game was confusing but mildly entertaining and all in all, it was...what it was, was football. And if you're an old fart like me, you get the last line.

comments

I'd love to start drawing again. It's been so long that I'm afraid to try--silly, no? I did a quick little sketchlet for a story I wrote and it wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad. I have ideas floating in my head but ever since I started writing (something I really wanted to do when I was a Weeroxy but thought I had no talent for), I've been crippled in that regard. It seems like it'd be easy, just pick up a pen and go to town, but no, I just circle the drafting table like an uncertain shark. I used to love it--used to need to do it like breathing. How does that happen?

I think this summer, I'll look into taking some art classes. Maybe after shading my umpteenth drawing of a bowl of plastic fruit, the drive will kick back in. I definitely need to relearn anatomy, and I'd also like not sit in a class full of retirees and headlong-into-elderly broads like myself, because that way lies kittens gamboling on a verdant swath of clover and little boys in top hats handing little girls in pinafores or what-nots daisies, which that kind of thing always vaguely squicked me. I'm asking a lot of an evening art class, I know. :)

comments

I was blissfully unaware of Katy Perry until a few days ago, and now, I hate her and her candy covered dress with a fiery hate that is only surpassed by the searing pain in my fingertips which I have burned with hot glue over and over, to the point where sympathetic looks have changed into "omg, how are you so stupid?" looks. Going about in my sockmuppet disguise and leaving long, rambly and occasionally almost insightful comments on the stuff I'm reading. It's so relaxing! I can say what I want, and not feel weird. Er than normal. :) It makes commenting more fun, when you don't feel you have to restrict yourself to "I liked this very much".

It's very liberating, this big fake mustache LJ. Not that all my friends at this point don't know it's me. That's the problem of being a technoboob. "Oy, you mean it won't just pick up that I meant me and not DeadAstro?" Head smack! Log out, and then log in, dork!

I tell you, it's so much fun that I want to make another muppet account, but I've been forbidden to. Because, apparently that way lies madness.
