Why this exists
The internet is fragmented.
The information you need is everywhere. The context isn't. A company's real competitors, a tool's actual alternatives, what a role pays in a specific city — each lives on a different site, in a different format, updated on a different schedule.

Infrastructure
The internet changes every day. Your reference layer should too.
Every entity is sourced, normalized, and resolved against everything already known about it — then scored before it's eligible to appear in search. A record existing isn't a reason to publish it.

FAQ
Common questions
What is The Internet Compass?
A reference layer for the internet economy: companies, software, careers, open source, research and world data, resolved into one connected dataset and published as real pages, not a link directory.
How is the data sourced?
A mix of hand-researched editorial content and an automated pipeline pulling from public APIs — GitHub, npm, PyPI, Wikidata, arXiv, OpenAlex, Hugging Face and more. Every entity is resolved and scored before it's eligible to appear in search.
How often is the data updated?
It depends on the source: job postings and open-source activity sync every few hours, most knowledge-graph sources sync daily to weekly, and slower-moving data like country indicators syncs monthly. Every graph page shows its own last-updated date.
Do you collect visitor data?
We don't have user accounts and we don't sell or rent visitor data. Analytics only run after you accept the cookie banner. See the Privacy Policy for specifics.
Can I suggest a source or report an error?
Yes — the Contact page takes source suggestions and correction requests directly.
