With Songview, ASCAP, BMI, GMR and SESAC are working together to make copyright data more accessible and transparent for all our partners.
For the first time, Songview will begin to display a combined view of song data from the repertoires of the nation’s four major performing rights organizations. Songview is a user-friendly, searchable data platform featuring copyright ownership information on over 38 million works that will continue to be updated as new song data becomes available. Songview not only shows PRO share splits, it also provides detail on the performing artists, alternate titles for songs, contact information for publishers and more.
HOW IT WORKS
This innovative system ingests song ownership information from each PRO, processes and reconciles that information based on agreed-upon rules and then sends the reconciled data back out to BMI and ASCAP’s public, searchable databases.

Information featured in Songview on BMI includes:
- Songwriters and publishers
- Aggregated share splits by society. You will see ASCAP and BMI shares, as well as shares designated as Other.
- Performers
- Alternate song titles
- ISWC and IPI codes
- BMI Song IDs
- Contact information for BMI publishers
When you see a Songview checkmark on a work, it means that both ASCAP and BMI have the same information regarding the songwriters, composers and publishers on a work, as well as the shares of the work belonging to each of the songwriters, composers and publishers. A work will have the Songview checkmark only if all of the share percentages for the work total 100%, or are +/- .06%, which is the industry standard tolerance.
Songview is a data platform developed by ASCAP and BMI, the nation’s two largest performance rights organizations (PROs), to provide the public with a comprehensive view of ownership shares for the vast majority of works licensed in the United States. With Songview integrated into our databases, ASCAP and BMI are able to display more detailed, authoritative and consistent copyright ownership data for performing rights for over 38 million songs in our combined repertoires. The process of developing Songview was incredibly complex, given the size and scope of the project and the fact that BMI and ASCAP have been operating independently for more than 80 and 105 years, respectively. Consolidating the information of over 20 million musical works, representing hundreds of thousands of writers and publishers across two different technological platforms, required substantial resources and tens of thousands of development hours. An entirely new reconciliation system was built from the ground up.
ASCAP and BMI created Songview in order to make copyright data more transparent and accessible for our partners. As the two largest U.S. PROs with unparalleled expertise in building and managing complex copyright ownership databases, it made sense for ASCAP and BMI to collaborate on this project.

Cuando usted vea la marca de verificación de Songview en una obra, eso significa que tanto ASCAP como BMI tienen la misma información sobre los autores, compositores y editoras de una obra, como los porcentajes en la propiedad de la obra de cada uno de los autores, compositores y editoras.
