  • Check it out. 👉 Our Director of Growth Initiatives, Tavi Schlueter, MSN, CPNP-PC, PMHS, was featured by Nurse.org this week with an in-depth piece on what success and building a solid foundation can look like for NPs and PAs seeking collaborating physician partnerships. Her piece breaks down seven questions NPs should ask before signing with a collaborating physician, because a compliant agreement and a working relationship aren't always the same thing. From response times to chart review to even what happens if your collaborator becomes unavailable, these are the exact conversations Tavi and our team help NPs and PAs have every day. Give it a read, and let us know which of these questions stood out to you the most: https://lnkd.in/eUv82CES

Navigating the choice of a collaborating physician goes beyond legal requirements. It's essential for NPs to understand that while a signature might satisfy state laws, the real test lies in the day-to-day collaboration. Nurse.org contributor Tavi Schlueter, MSN, CPNP-PC, PMHS, a pediatric nurse practitioner, covers the seven questions NPs should ask before choosing a collaborating physician. For NPs in states that require collaboration, the piece treats the choice as two decisions in one: a compliance decision (the requirements range from Tennessee's chart-review minimums to Pennsylvania's required substitute physician to Georgia's and California's caps on how many NPs one physician can support) and a relationship decision (specialty fit, real availability, communication cadence, prescribing alignment, and a continuity plan for when a collaborator retires, relocates, or becomes unavailable). Every claim is sourced to the statute or board page, so it doubles as a reference document for practice owners and the consultants who advise them. For the NPs and practice leaders here: which of these seven questions do you see skipped most often, and what did it cost? (...continued below)

  • Practice authority isn't one-size-fits-all. What an NP can do independently depends entirely on the state they're practicing in. AANP groups states into three categories: full practice, reduced practice, and restricted practice. As of their most recent count, 27 states, D.C., and two U.S. territories have adopted full practice authority. In reduced and restricted states, NPs work under a collaborative practice agreement with a physician. This written contract defines the scope of collaboration, prescribing protocols, and how the physician supports the NP's practice. Requirements change often, so always verify current rules with your state board of nursing and the AANP State Practice Environment map: https://lnkd.in/dZNp2cz If you're working through what this looks like in your state, we can help you find a collaborating physician. • One of our own just made national news.💜 Tashiba Williams, NP-C, founder of Ada Family Health Clinic, was featured in USA TODAY for the work she's doing across Texas and Louisiana, bringing specialized wound care straight to patients' homes and helping people avoid amputations that once felt inevitable. This is what practice ownership can look like for more nurse practitioners. A clear mission, a model that removes barriers instead of adding them, and results that speak for themselves. We're proud to be part of her story. Congratulations on the recognition, Tashiba! Read the feature: https://lnkd.in/eTgGhanA

  • According to HRSA's latest Health Professional Shortage Area report, 108.5 million people in the U.S. live in a primary care shortage area, and only 47% of that need is being met today. Most of that gap is rural. The same report found that 61% of primary care shortage designations are in rural areas, affecting nearly 29 million people. NPs and PAs can help close this primary care gap for rural communities with state-compliant practices backed by collaborating physician partnerships. 🤝 CollabDocs makes starting your practice easier with the largest national network of physicians ready to build a foundational partnership with you. And what’s even better - you can get matched with one in under 48 hours. See how it works at https://lnkd.in/eRUhN4yS.

  • “Beyond the Agreement: What Meaningful Physician Collaboration Really Looks Like,” is just one week away! This type of webinar is rare to come by in our field, so we've put our all into making this resource available to you. We’re going to pull back the curtain on what makes a collaborating partnership work, not just what makes it compliant. Our hosts are two physicians who’ve spent years partnering with NPs and PAs across a range of specialties and practice settings. They’ll dive into the difference between a partnership and a transaction, how trust and communication hold a collaboration together, and the pitfalls that quietly derail otherwise good matches. If you’ve wondered whether your collaborating physician relationship could be doing more for you, bring your questions to this one. 💬 📅 Friday, August 28 at 1 PM ET Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/ef_m4aEm

  • AI is emerging everywhere in independent practices right now, and if you’re an NP or PA, you’ve probably already asked yourself whether it’s actually helping or quietly creating risk. 🤔 The honest answer is: it depends on what you’re using it for. AI can give you real confidence when you’re building or scaling a practice, but it isn’t a substitute for clinical judgment, compliance oversight, or the collaborating partnership your practice is built on. Bookmark this post for an easy best practices guide!

  • PA or NP? Neither path is better; they’re just built differently. 💜 PAs train in the medical model, earning one generalist certification that lets them move across specialties without going back to school. NPs train in the nursing model, choosing a population focus like family, pediatrics, or psychiatric care from day one, often with a clearer path to independent practice depending on their state. From there, program length, certification exams, and how your state regulates your scope flow from that first choice. We broke down the full comparison in our blog post: https://lnkd.in/e5dYBHuw

  • New research from the Columbia University School of Nursing has piqued our interest. 👉 It found that from 2016 to 2023, the physician workforce grew by just 1.1% annually. Meanwhile, NPs grew annually by 10% and PAs by 8.6% during the same time frame. Run that forward, and the gap only widens. Researchers project that annual physician growth will stay near 1.1% through 2030, while NP growth will climb to 11% and PA growth will continue at 5.6%. Essentially, more NPs and PAs will be practicing than ever, and the pool of physicians available to collaborate with them isn’t growing anywhere near as fast. Our team knows this gap well, which is why we maintain the nation’s largest vetted network of collaborating physicians. When an NP or PA is ready to practice, the bottleneck isn’t finding a collaborating physician - it’s getting matched with the right one for your unique practice needs. And better yet, we build that collaboration to last with a steadfast foundation and continuous support from the CollabDocs team. 🤝 Book a free consultation and get matched in as little as 48 hours: https://lnkd.in/dBqwvnrx Check out the full article from Columbia University School of Nursing here: https://lnkd.in/ep8s9aFj
