Bitcoin Red Team efforts are underway at the 256 Foundation, even on the primarily closed-source mining stack, thanks to powerful open-weight AI tools and decompilers. We've flagged initial findings to the respective parties.

~90% of ASICs run one vendor's closed-source firmware. Almost nobody has audited it. We at @256FOUNDATION do. Introducing the 256 Red Team 🧵 — the 256 Foundation's firmware security program. On hardware we own, in an isolated lab, under coordinated disclosure.

We appreciate HRF's continued support! Open-source mining inherently means open-source transaction settlement and issuance. This is critical for a private, permission-less, and censorship-resistant monetary system for the world.

Red Team work doesn't stop at software. Auditing the mining stack requires hardware to test firmware. Reach out if you'd like to support!

A lot of you asked how the @256FOUNDATION Red Team actually tests closed-source mining firmware. The answer is real hardware. You can't audit what you can't run — so we run it. This is our control-board cage: miner brains on the bench, wired into an isolated lab network.
