I recently joined Dani’s podcast for a conversation about love, relationships, and personal growth.

For most of my life, I approached relationships in a very pragmatic way. I didn’t really believe in love. It felt like something exaggerated, like a story people tell themselves to feel better. At some point, that stopped working.

In this conversation, we talk about a few ideas that changed my perspective:

why the first relationship is often just a “first pancake”, more about learning than getting it right,
why experiencing a broader “spectrum” of relationships helps you understand what you actually want,
why neither staying in a relationship out of fear nor endlessly avoiding commitment leads anywhere meaningful,
and why love is not just a feeling, but something that forces you to grow up and take responsibility.

Today I see it more like: a relationship does not build itself. You have to become the kind of person who can carry it.

Our understanding of humanity is far from a complete picture. However, there are theories that have been strengthening their position in the worldview marketplace for many years. In this essay, we look through the lenses of these theories to answer the question “What makes us more human?”

The first set of lenses comes from Darwin’s theory of evolution. A few years ago, if someone had told me I’d go on an Erasmus, I would’ve ignored them at best. It seemed so unlike me—unexciting and, more importantly, a waste of time.

But everywhere I looked, people spoke how it changed their lives. The only regrets I saw were from people who wished but didn’t go. I didn’t want to be one of them.

My life was stable, full of close friends and reasons to stay. Yet, one thing I couldn’t let go away, the shadow of future regret. The fear of unknown was paralysing me, but thanks to a few close friends I decided to go.

Writing paper step by step

Fleeting notes. These are the place to dump your ideas out of your head, once they are on paper, you release cache of your brain, letting it find new ideas. Don't worry how your write them. You will amend them later.
Make literature notes. Whenever you read something, make notes about the content. Everything you found interesting, insightful. Use your own words, don't skip the understanding process--dont blindly quote.
Make permanent notes. Go through the notes you did in step 1 and 2 and review how they relate to each other, to the research you are doing. You can look at your slip-box, there is stuff that interest you already. The goal is not to collect, but to develop ideas, arguments and discussions. Does this new information contradict, correct or support or add to what you already have in your slip-box ? Can you combine ideas and generate something new? What questions are triggered by them? Write one note for one idea, and write as if you would write for someone else. Use full sentences disclose your sources, make references, and try to be succinct, clear and accurate. Throw away your fleeting notes from step 1, and add your references from step 2 into your reference system from step 2. They were just the sandbox, everything that matter is in slip-box
Add permanent note to slip-box. a) Put it behind the related notes. Look for which note it directly relate to. If it doesn't relate to anything, just put it behind other notes. b) link to it from other notes or just index.
Develop your topics, questions, and research project bottom up from within the system. Reflect in what is there, what is missing, what questions arise. Read more to challenge and strengthen your arguments and change and develop your arguments according to the new information your are learning about. Take more notes, develop ideas, and see where things will take you. Follow your interest and go for places that offers the more insights. Build upon what you have. Empty slip-box doesn't mean you are starting from scratch--your head is full of ideas to be tested, opinions to be challenged, and questions to be answered. Look into the chain of notes to see where they are heading at, what cluster have they build up. Don't cling to an idea of other is more interesting, offer more momentum. The more you are interested in something the better you will make it. The more notes you will collect and the more questions you will generate. It may turn out that you have drifted to something else than you thought at the beginning, that is how insight works.
At this point should have an idea on the topic you want to write about. Your topic is now based on what you have, not what literature provides you. Look through the connections and collect all the relevant notes you may need. Gather them in one place, order them. Look for what is missing and what is redundant. Don't wait until you have everything all together. Improve notes, arguments and structure.
Turn your notes into draft. Don't simply copy them into manuscript. Rearrange, modify, them into one coherent whole. Build arguments out of them, while also filling gaps in your arguments while you encounter them.
Edit and proofread your manuscript. Give yourself a pat on the shoulder.

Don't work merely on one manuscript at a time. Jump between ideas. Build them granularly, finish when you are certain, or you haven't added nothing more for a long time.

A great book about Distributed Systems. From the programmer's (not the mathematician's) point of view. I love the approach to abstractions and modelling. The great rationale behind different models and abstraction levels. Difference between CAP and FLP impossibilities. Excellent conceptualisation, and great metaphors. Great discussion about different types of consistency, strong, weak, client-centric, linear, sequential, and eventual, etc. Love the philosophical debates, and clear definitions. Big plus for mentioning Nietzsche :) I'm missing a chapter about byzantine fault-tolerant systems. Nevertheless, looking for more books written in such a concise, neat, and intuitive way.

My thinking is as bad as [[Rodion Raskolnikov]]. He also believed that there are two types of people, "normies" and "special". Normies can be compared because they have nothing unique, they are nothing more than animals. "Special" people like Napoleon can kill people, can change rules and norms, for the greater good. The same as he could kill the old lady [[Utilitarism — for the greater good]], to prevent her sister from getting married to a bad guy, and Sofia for being a sex worker, and a bunch of other "good" things that would happen at a cost of one small crime.

Blockchain technology has become popular mainly because of its openness, neutrality, censorship-resistant, and permissionless. We can think of open blockchains as a pure democracy, where developers are legislators, miners are deputy, and end-users are electoral. Each group is incentivised to act honesty by the other two.

If developers (legislators) do not do their best to improve the ecosystem, miners and users will choose different, better blockchains.
If miners start to form a cartel, censor transactions, or approve illegal transactions, end-users will stop using this blockchain.
If end-users stop using the blockchain, the whole project collapses; thus, developers and miners lose their jobs.

This perfect equilibrium makes public blockchains great. Everything is strengthened by the fact that both developers, miners, and end-users holds some shares in the project in the form of cryptocurrency, so the gains and losses are tangible.

Ideas are worthless unless executed. Ideas are just multiplier of a execution. You must be careful of executing bad ideas, and not executing great ideas, because they can bring the same poor outcome. Also be careful of executing awful ideas, because they multiplier can be negative.

There is nothing wrong with not growing big (like in bodybuilding, there is nothing wrong if you don't become professional bodybuilder, but just stay fit). Don't get a hostage your own business. Big picture

Android:

is a platform for running code;
is build on the Linux kernel, but Android is no Linux, concretely:
- No native windowing system;
- No glibc support;
- Does not include the full set of standard Linux utilities (that you can find on distro like Debian, RedHat etc.)

So why the Linux kernel if Android is not Linux system ?

It provides great memory and process management
it provides basic plumbing and services to support the higher level platform and applications.
It also provides a great permissions-based security model
Proven driver model that let provide a great abstraction layer between the hardware devices, peripherals such as LCD touch screen, audio and the software that uses it
Support shared libraries and real pluggable module architecture that allow us to plug things very easily

Tax Ledger

In 2017, there was no other way to settle taxes on cryptocurrency trading other than calculating everything manually. Taxledger was created to solve this problem. In 2017 I started working on a command-line app.

After receiving interest and positive feedback on the app, my friend and I have started working on an improved version of the app — tax-ledger.com. Unfortunately, it turned out that the interest for settling taxes from trading cryptocurrencies was lower than we expected and decreasing from year to year; as a result, we decided to stop further development of the app.
