What is 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞?
A System-level Change means fundamental change in govt policies, public service delivery, or shift in societal beliefs and practices, as a result of a concerted effort.
Today, problems have outpaced solutions.
Even system-level solutions are only 'catching up'.
A 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘭𝘢𝘸 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 does not mean 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥. Often it's because there's no corresponding effort (and collaboration) on implementation.
To be on top of emerging and chronic developmental issues, we need Collaborative Systems Change.
Collaborative Systems Change is a way to solve complex social problems (like malnutrition, or climate change) by bringing together multiple stakeholders like governments, NGOs, businesses, and funders to work in a coordinated way.
It's Systems Change. Only better.
Key - Stakeholders work with the 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬, with 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 along a 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞.
Consider society as an automobile with many moving parts (education, healthcare, livelihoods, etc.). If it breaks-down, fixing just one part (say, healthcare) might not help. Especially if other parts (like nutrition or transportation) are not working well. One may have to check the fuel (level of poverty, funding mechanism), roads (policies and laws), and driving skills (societal practices, awareness), and get the right 'vendor' to fix them.
And when bigger problems loom large (climate change or AI disruption), it requires big societal shift (moving from fossil-fuel vehicle to an electric one, may be). New value chains. New industries. New systems emerge. New laws created.
Needs massive collaborative effort to make it happen.

1. Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration – Different people come together to work with the same community along a shared timeline.
2. Shared Vision – Everyone agrees to a common goal (example - reducing child stunting to 10%).
3. Shifting funding paradigm consciously - Donors agree to support integrated development, as against fragmented programs.
4. Systemic Thinking – Looking beyond symptoms to understand behaviours and practices that influence the root causes.
5. Power Shifts – Solutions are crafted 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 those most affected by the problem.
6. Learning & Adaptation – Iterative, real-time learning and feedback loops are present throughout.
When institutions and leaders come together with trust and shared intent, the system shifts in a way that is sustainable, inclusive, fast and scalable.
