arun narayan and Kuruvilla Markose have been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officers of Titan Company Limited Jewellery and Watches Divisions, respectively, in a strategic leadership move aimed at driving future growth and innovation. Arun Narayan, currently leading the Tanishq India business, will assume the role of CEO – Jewellery Division effective January 1, 2026. An IIM Calcutta graduate and Tata Administrative Services officer, he brings nearly three decades of experience in retail, marketing, and sales within the Tata Group. His efforts have been pivotal in strengthening Tanishq’s market leadership. Kuruvilla Markose, who presently heads Titan’s International Business Division, will step in as CEO – Watches Division starting August 13, 2025. An IIFT Delhi alumnus, Kuruvilla’s cross-sector experience spans FMCG, telecom, digital, and retail. Eyewear retailer Lenskart Solutions Ltd. has drawn massive investor interest for its anchor book, receiving bids worth nearly Rs 68,000 crore, about ten times the total IPO size and twenty times the anchor book portion, according to a report by CNBC-TV18 citing market sources. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) contributed around 52% of the anchor book, with participation from major global funds such as BlackRock, GIC, Fidelity, Nomura, and Capital International. How TANISHQ leveraged consumer insights to find its golden touch TATA group’s Titan Industries foray into Jewellery business in 1995 with Tanishq saw rough initial years. Tanishq started with only 18 carat gold offerings and western designs. In a market where consumers preferred higher gold proportion and traditional designs, Tanishq’s move to change consumer preference didn’t succeed. Business was on the verge of being sold off. Tanishq’s woes boiled down to one simple problem – having no traffic in the stores. Getting customers to walk into the stores became a priority. The brand went back to basics. And went back to consumers. As the brand deep dived into what Indian women want, it was apparent that jewellery buying in India was a long-standing relationship between a woman and her family jeweller. Indian women bought jewellery in a ritualistic fashion – going to the local jeweller her mother had went to. Tanishq’s study also revealed that the caratage offered by local jewellers was on the lower side in a bid to keep the making charges very low to entice customers. Tanishq had its task cut out – How to challenge the age-old family jeweller’s word and establish TANISHQ’s guaranteed purity credentials? As a solution, brand planned to introduce a gold purity testing device called Karatmeter in all the stores. The idea was simple – Invite women to measure gold purity and demonstrate to them that their jeweller was untrustworthy. Before embarking on this plan, Tanishq went back to consumers to test the idea.Women lamented why would they want to feel miserable by discovering that the jewellery they possessed was of low caratage. Brand realized that its focus on proving local jeweller untrustworthy was actually leading to an outcome where consumer was feeling miserable. This insight led to another question – how to help consumers overcome the feeling? This eventually led to an idea which leveraged Karatmeter to offer solution to consumers. The Karatmeter campaign eventually designed asked women to walk to a Tanishq store with their traditional jewellery, have its purity measured in Karatmeter and then exchange the jewellery, regardless of caratage, for the same weight of authentic Tanishq jewellery. Consumers flocked to the stores – walking in to feel shocked at the discovery of caratage of their traditional jewellery but more importantly walking out feeling surprised and assured that they now possess authentic, 22 carat Tanishq jewellery. Six months after its launch, underneat.in, the women-focused shapewear and comfortwear brand co-founded by Kusha Kapila and Vimarsh Razdan, has achieved remarkable growth — crossing 1 lakh customers and reaching ₹60 crore ARR.
