Baseten is the inference platform that ML teams rely on to deploy and serve models at production scale — without building the plumbing themselves. Deepak Bhandarkar, Head of Finance, is the one making sure every model run actually becomes revenue the business can count on. That's not a spreadsheet job, it's a systems job. He's the connective tissue between product velocity and financial precision. We had Deepak join us at the Orb office for a customer fireside chat a few weeks back. At one point, we asked how he describes Orb internally. His answer: “Orb? It’s how we make money.” Really proud to have him and the Baseten team building with Orb.

I was at a recent CFO Summit where they polled 200+ finance leaders in the room. First question: who is using usage-based billing today? 69% said they were already using it, testing it, or evaluating it. The second question was even more revealing: what percentage of current revenue is actually usage-based? 37% said 0%, and 31% said less than 25%. That gap tells me the adoption wave is coming. The days of seat-based pricing are fading. The value is in the software and the outcomes it drives, not just the number of seats licensed. Orb just released its 2026 State of AI Agent Pricing Report, and the findings line up closely with what I’m seeing firsthand as a finance leader. The operational complexity that comes with this shift, from forecasting to reconciliation to revenue recognition, is something finance teams are working through in real time. Jasper is the leading marketing agents platform — and over the last few years, has gone through a real evolution, shifting from self-serve to enterprise and rebuilding their pricing model around it. Dakota Brown, Director of Engineering, owns the billing and monetization layer through that transformation. When it came time to make the build vs. buy call, he already knew the real cost wasn't the vendor — it was getting it wrong and living with it forever. That's the kind of thinking that makes billing infrastructure a competitive advantage instead of a bottleneck. The result? 2x faster to launch, saving 2 months of valuable engineering time. "Configuring billing wrong and being stuck with it forever — that's the real risk. I can't build and maintain our entire ecosystem either. The bar was: can you meet our requirements, and is it a strong experience on top of solving the problem? Orb cleared it." Grateful to support leaders like Dakota through the calls that drive Jasper’s scale. Read the full case study, link in comments.

We're pleased to welcome our newest Account Executive, David B. to team Orb. Here's what David said about why he joined the team: "Orb immediately clicked for me because of how it treats monetization as a strategic lever, not just billing. With AI driving a shift toward usage-based models, Orb is right at the center of how companies actually make money in this next wave. Earlier in my career in airline revenue management, I saw how powerful that can be. Orb feels like a modern version of that for software companies. What stands out just as much is how the team operates. People are close to the product, close to the customer, and focused on solving real problems." Please help us welcome David to the team!

Factory's mission to bring full autonomy to software engineering starts with the architecture. Eno Reyes, Co-Founder & CTO, is at the center of the technical foundation driving Factory's growth across some of the world's largest engineering teams. Their Series C announcement, now at a $1.5B valuation, is a strong reflection of both Factory’s momentum and the importance of what they’re building. Factory is building autonomous AI agents for software engineering, at a moment when the pricing models for AI products are genuinely still being figured out. Today, they announced a $150M Series C — fueling the next phase of growth as they scale both the product and the business model behind it. Francesca LaBianca, VP of Business Operations, plays a key role in shaping that monetization layer through the uncertainty. Keeping the business commercially sharp while the product evolves underneath it — flexible enough to reprice as AI capabilities advance, without losing transparency with customers. "Orb lets us move quickly when pricing needs to evolve as AI models and agent capabilities advance. It gives us the flexibility to stay ahead of the market, without compromising on transparency for our customers." Thrilled to support Francesca and the Factory team through their rapid growth.

Today we're shipping native support for agentic payment methods in Orb. Billing for agentic workflows has been a real pain point. Agentic workflows are off-session by design. Either the agent routes around the billing layer or someone intervenes after the fact, but neither works at scale. We built this because the billing layer shouldn't be the reason agentic workflows break down.

New York, we're coming to you🗽 Orb is hosting a happy hour on April 30th in NYC for the people building at the intersection of pricing, billing, and AI — our customers, our community, and the operators who are building the monetization layer for what's next. If you're in the city and want to connect with others navigating the same problems (and have a drink while doing it), come through: lu.ma/orb-nyc-communityHH

Dremio is on an ambitious mission, building the data platform for agents that enterprises are betting their AI stack on. Behind the scenes, Ryan Tse, Senior Engineering Manager, is making sure the business side scales as fast as the product does. Complex usage-based pricing, ambitious engineering timelines, a billing layer that can't become the bottleneck. Ryan is integral to how Dremio grows, shaping what it looks like to monetize a world-class data platform without slowing it down. “As a company, Dremio needed a billing solution that would scale with our growth and aligns with our ambitious engineering timelines, and Orb delivered exactly that. Beyond the platform itself, the Orb team has been a fantastic collaborator throughout — from onboarding through complex usage-based pricing logic, they've been a true partner every step of the way.” Grateful to partner with Ryan and the Dremio team.

We hosted a group of product & revenue leaders in SF last night for a private pasta-making class Made ravioli from scratch and talked pricing. At one point we asked everyone to describe their pricing strategy as a pasta dish and — a few favorites: “Lasagna… it looks layered but somehow still falls flat” “Spaghetti… we throw it at the wall and see what sticks” “Rigatoni… simple and transparent” Funny, but also pretty accurate: most teams are somewhere between guessing and iterating in public. Had a great night, thank you to our guests Alice Chen, Tommy Tseng, Jeff MacMillan, Leo Leung, Linus Lu for joining us!
