MATLAB: A Practical Introduction to Programming and Problem Solving 5th Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars (190)

MATLAB: A Practical Introduction to Programming and Problem Solving, winner of TAA’s 2017 Textbook Excellence Award ("Texty"), guides the reader through both programming and built-in functions to easily exploit MATLAB's extensive capabilities for tackling engineering and scientific problems. Assuming no knowledge of programming, this book starts with programming concepts, such as variables, assignments, and selection statements, moves on to loops, and then solves problems using both the programming concept and the power of MATLAB. The fifth edition has been updated to reflect the functionality of the current version of MATLAB (R2018a), including the addition of local functions in scripts, the new string type, coverage of recently introduced functions to import data from web sites, and updates to the Live Editor and App Designer.

The book lays out Matlab. If you walk through it, trying it out as you go, you will get it. Don't expect quick answers, as matlab is a professional software, but the book tries it's best to make the process easier. Whether learning is a good dream or bad, be patient, take the steps, and give it a whirl. Matlab is used in many different professional fields, and will likely still be used at the turn of next century. Have fun!

This boom really helped me in my MATLAB class it has really good practice questions. BUT it does not have an answer key I was able to find it online after a really extensive search but I feel like this book really goes into depth and has answers to most questions that I found myself having. I did have to get this book for a class but I still use it now when I have questions for personal projects or if I'm doing some sort of data analysis.

I received this book in perfect condition.

It is an excellent introduction to Matlab. This book assumes no prior knowledge of programming languages. It starts from the basics and gives you a full understanding of matlab programming concept by time one reaches the last chapter.

It also has enough practice questions, exercises and questions with answers. Patience at working through most of the exercises, if not all, gives deeper understanding of techniques in the book.

I recommend this book for anyone considering serious Matlab programming.

If you are buying this, I'm willing to bet that you're a BU engineering student taking the EK125. The book ok, not that hard to read, but without the MATLAB program open, it's really confusing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Publishers refuse to provide answers to the exercises

Answers to the exercises are only available if you are a tutor for Matlab. I contacted the publishers to get answers to the exercises, they refused, because I am not a tutor. So here I am, trying to learn matlab, with only an expensive doorstop.

    This is an excellent book!

It would be great if the author wrote a volume 2 of the book that is project-based. This could cover applications in data science, AI , engineering, etc.
