- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseContents did not match the cover. I ordered Java for Dummies, which the cover of the book states. But then contents of the book is Kinesiology for dummies. Noticed something was off as this book as half the size as the one I've seen in the book store
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseOne of the big reasons I bought this book was because copyright was 2023. I thought surely this would have a decent section on Java Streams which came out circa 2014 in Java 8. Nope, nothing! I don’t see streams mentioned anywhere, not even in the index. Waste of money IMO.

chrismichaelukReviewed in the United Kingdom on May 29, 20255.0 out of 5 stars brilliant
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseWell this is one heck of a huge book. It's like all the Harry Potter books all stacked together :)
Looks like a great read though, and I'm a completely newbie/dummy when it comes to Java. I've only got it because it was a reduced price and I think it will come in handy for the next module of my degree. Happy with the purchase! It seems to cover everything from the basics to the very advanced topics.
The only things I didn’t like were:
1. There are no projects to complete. So you’re constantly ‘told’ this does this and that does that, but it would be useful if at the end of a chapter you develop a small project. Sometimes being told things is not enough particularly when it’s technical. Sure there are examples, but you don’t learn from just staring at examples…. You need to get hands on and create something. There’s no stopping you creating something of your own but it’s easier following a project along in a book because you can check errors along the way.
2. Although it’s a dummies book, it should really
explain the very basics. Some things are written about without any prior description of what it does or what’s it’s for. Some they should really talk to you like you are a dummy because most people reading these books are likely to know very little or nothing (in my case) about the subject.
Benjamin FoxReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 18, 20254.0 out of 5 stars Massive - but good
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book is absolutely massive. But, it's informative and useful. It'll last me quite a while before I can look at different coding languages.
