About the author

Microsoft MVP | Pluralsight Author | Architect @Docker
I'm a Pluralsight Author, Microsoft MVP and work at Docker as an architect. I've been architecting and delivering successful solutions with Microsoft technologies since 2000, most recently Big Data and API implementations in Azure, and distributed applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
Currently I'm interested the evolution of the Microsoft stack, exploring the great opportunities opening up with .NET Framework apps running in Windows containers, .NET Core apps running in Linux containers, and running Docker on Azure.
I'm a regular presenter and workshop host at conferences. I've been fortunate to speak at NDC, DockerCon, SDD, DevSum, Container Camp and WinOps. You'll often see me at user groups too - Docker London, London DevOps and WinOps are my locals.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2023Format: AudiobookVerified PurchaseVery well written. The author really knows his stuff, from working with/for/on docker. There's no way it could cover all the advanced features of docker, as that would take volumes, but does insure you know the advanced topics that are most important.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2025Format: AudiobookI purchased this book in 2020 when this was in early access program. I then got a job that requried me to not think about Docker. Lately, I have been ramping up on some tech skills and decided to use Docker again and I am happy to tell you that this book is still pretty relevant in 2025. I am on Chapter 6 at the moment and all images are available on author's docker hub. I think he is working on the second edition of this book, which you can purchase through Manning Publication Early Access Program (MEAP) and get this book included, so that's the route I would recommend, but if you already have a copy of this book and don't want to buy a new book, it is still a good book to learn Docker.
The author knows his content well and although the book is a little verbose (like most tech books), it is a good book and concepts are explained in clear and easy manner.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2021Format: PaperbackThis is a wonderful primer to getting into Docker with samples and demos that won't keep you up all night, are well-put together and fun to run. All of the major components of using Docker as a developer of sysadmin or operations professional are covered, and intelligently organized from starting out to running complex rolling updates and clustering.
All the code samples are available for Linux and Windows with fun labs at the end of every chapter. True to its intent, each chapter can be undertaken in a single sitting.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2020Format: PaperbackIn this book, Elton Stoneman deftly walks the fine line between breadth and brevity. He keeps it very simple, but never assumes anything about the reader's prior knowledge, or skips any important steps.
