When open source and AI meet regulation, small blind spots can turn into serious problems. At Open Community Experience, these two OC for Compliance talks go straight to the risks, and how to stay ahead of them 👇 🔍 Layered compliance: using the Swiss Cheese Model to prevent catastrophic failure by Georg Link, PhD (Bitergia) This session uses the Swiss Cheese Model to show how layered compliance practices, from SBOMs and vulnerability scanning to project health metrics, work together to catch problems early and reduce legal, security, and financial exposure at scale. 🤖 FOSS, AI and compliance: good match or not? By Dr. Lina Boecker (Osborne Clarke) From models and weights to prompts and outputs, AI adds new compliance questions to open source. This talk breaks down what you can do, what you must do, and what to watch for, covering licensing, attribution, redistribution, training data provenance, privacy, and the EU AI Act. If you’re building with open source, deploying AI, or navigating compliance across borders, these sessions will give you clarity and practical guidance. 👉 Register for #OCX26 and join us in Brussels: https://lnkd.in/d5eCdvib #OCX26 #compliance #opensource #AI #regulation

"The Geopolitics of Code: From Digital Sovereignty to Global Fragmentation" At #FOSDEM2026, Daniel Izquierdo Cortázar, PhD and Jesus Gonzalez-Barahona took to the Main Track to highlight a hard truth: Open Source is at a crossroads. While it is the backbone of the global economy, it faces existential risks: ⚠️ The Weaponization of Open Source: Jurisdictional control over key platforms is becoming a geopolitical tool (the "Chokepoint" effect). 💸 Chronic Underinvestment: Critical components are maintained by small, under-resourced teams, leaving the global supply chain vulnerable. 🗺️ National Fragmentation: The rise of domestic stacks and repositories reduces the interoperability and shared visibility that make OSS resilient. At Bitergia, we believe that data and transparency are the only ways to navigate this. Without a shared responsibility between developers, industry, and policymakers, we risk a weaker, fractured ecosystem. We need a call to action to keep open source secure, interoperable, and globally accessible. 📸 by Mike Gifford #FOSDEM #OpenSource #Bitergia #DigitalSovereignty #SoftwareSupplyChain #GeopoliticsOfCode #OSSCommunity
