The scariest day of the year for many business owners is April 15th. In the United States, we call this “Tax Day.” The day that Uncle Sam comes to collect his money. But far too many solo business owners are overpaying and don’t even realize it. My college friend Sarah was a content creator in 2025. An old mentor Brandon was a marketing consultant in Texas. Sarah made $150k with her influencer business in Florida. Brandon made $200k from Sponsorship deals. Both Sarah and Brandon paid the IRS way too much in taxes. If they had opted to be taxed as an s corp instead of a sole prop, they could have saved close to $30k combined. In Sarah’s case, if she paid herself a salary of $60k, she could’ve lowered her tax bill by over $13k. For Brandon, if he paid himself $90k, he could’ve saved almost $17k. Most people waste so much money because they don’t know their options. All they have to do is take these steps: → see if an S Corp makes sense for the business → if it does, form an LLC & elect as a S Corp → set up their back office and bookkeeping → process regular payroll for themselves → file a separate business tax return yearly I learned about this years ago and have been using Collective to decrease my own tax bill. Everything these days is more expensive and you shouldn’t be overpaying in taxes! P.S. 📌📌 Collective can help you get this all set up super quickly: https://lnkd.in/g-A_qFc5 #CollectivePartner

  • Tomorrow is Tax Day, and if you're self-employed, it means more than just filing a return. Here is your checklist to avoid those IRS penalties: 1. File or Extend 2025: If you aren’t ready, file Form 4868 by midnight tomorrow. It stops the 5% "failure-to-file" penalty, which is much pricier than the late payment fee! And remember, you may need to file state return extensions as well 2. Top off your 2025 IRA: You have until tomorrow to maximize your 2025 contributions ($7k or $8k if 50+). This is one of the best ways to lower your taxable income 3. Pay 2026 Q1 Estimates: Even if you extend your 2025 return, your FIRST estimated tax payment for 2026 is due tomorrow If this feels like a lot to manage on top of running your business, we're here to help. Collective takes the back office off your plate so you can focus on the work that actually matters.

  • We get asked this question all the time: can my S Corp pay for my car? The short answer is "sort of," and Marissa Achanzar breaks down exactly what that means. Your S Corp can reimburse you for the business use of your personal vehicle, but you cannot simply run all of your car expenses through the business if you are also using that car for personal trips. The IRS requires you to track and separate business use from personal use, and the deduction you can claim is proportional to how much of your driving is actually business-related. This is one of those areas where the details really matter. Getting it wrong could end up costing you more than you would have saved in the first place. Still have questions? Drop them in the comments 🚙

  • We love watching our members crush it, and the energy in Atlanta last week was unmatched. Collective was proud to partner with our member, Kelly Charles-Collins, Esq. - The Speaker Mogul and the Speaking Industry Xpo for THE 6, a business incubator built for credentialed women experts who are done undercharging and ready to build profit-centered enterprises. Watching our members show up and make their dreams realities is exactly why we do what we do. At Collective, we believe the back-office side of your business should never be the thing that holds you back. When taxes, bookkeeping, and business structure are handled, you get to walk into rooms like THE 6 ready to build, not just survive. To everyone who was there: we see you and were honored to be part of your journey.

  • Itzel Islas didn't just cross a border, she built a creative career that lives beautifully on both sides of it. Growing up in Tijuana and now based in San Diego, she channeled her border-town upbringing into a design practice that would span fifteen years. What started as a deep love for illustration and visual storytelling evolved into Yay Itzel, a freelance design studio helping brands and individuals celebrate culture, community, and identity through vibrant, intentional design. But as the studio grew, so did the quiet anxiety of running it alone. "I would always have the little question in the back of my mind, like, did I miss something?" Itzel shares. Today, with the right support behind her, she's putting more focus on the work that actually makes her business grow and building Yay Itzel with creativity, confidence, and long-term intention. • March 16th is days away. Have you made your decision? Single-member LLC or the LLC with S-Corp election? It's one of the most important financial decisions you'll make as a solopreneur, and the deadline to make a timely election for the 2026 tax year is just a few days away. Here's the thing you'll hear us say on repeat: neither structure is "better." They're just different. And the right fit depends entirely on where you are in your business. You may consider staying a single-member LLC if you want simplicity, lower upfront costs, and flexibility while you're still finding your footing. You might consider the S-Corp election if you're a high-earning solopreneur who's ready to stop overpaying on self-employment taxes and start keeping more of what you make. We broke down the full comparison in this handy cheat sheet. Save or screenshot it, or send it to a fellow solopreneur who it could help. The deadline is March 16th. If you're still not sure which path is right for you, that's exactly what Collective is here to figure out together.

  • To the women around the world, in our community, and within Collective, your work, your grit, and your presence makes everything we build better. 💜 Today we're handing the spotlight to six of the many incredible women who help make Collective what it is. We sat down with Maddie Frye, Rachel Ergmann, Victoria Rothbauer, Sarah Robinson, Michelle Bunarjo, and Camila dos Santos and asked them about their journeys, the women that inspired them, and what it really means to build a career on your own terms. Swipe to meet them → Their stories and paths are different. But one thing they share: they showed up, they bet on themselves, and they made the people around them better for it. To every woman in our community, we built this for you too. And we're grateful every day that you're here. Happy International Women's Day 🌿 #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInBusiness #Collective
