not all heroes wear capes...
🍦 I almost didn't share this. But I think it's too important not to. 🍦 Today I witnessed something that fundamentally changed the way I think about leadership. My colleague Greg Reynolds stood up in front of the entire team and opened with this slide "Why I eat a pint of ice cream most days." Plot twist: Greg makes the ice cream himself. In a Ninja. Let that sink in. While you were "time-blocking" your calendar, Greg was blending Waitrose rocky road and almond milk into a personal revenue stream of joy. Here are 5 lessons I took away from Greg's talk that will stick with me forever: 1️⃣ Context is everything. Greg literally had a slide called "Context." That's the kind of strategic framing you can't teach in an MBA. 2️⃣ Vertical integration is real. Greg doesn't buy ice cream. Greg manufactures ice cream. In his kitchen. He's not a consumer — he's a supply chain. 🏭 3️⃣ The best tools are the ones you actually use. Most people have a Ninja rotting in a cupboard next to an unused Nutribullet. Greg's Ninja has more uptime than AWS. ⚡ 4️⃣ Know your north star metric. For some it's ARR. For Greg, it's pints per week. Both are valid. 📈 5️⃣ Great leaders don't ask for permission. They ask for a spoon. 🥄 Greg, if you're reading this (and I know you are because you liked my last 14 posts within 3 minutes of posting) — thank you. You didn't just give a presentation. You gave us permission. To plug in the Ninja. To press the button. To eat the pint. 🍨 Who else has a "Greg" on their team? Drop a 🍦 in the comments and tag them.
