  • Another week, another sales leadership session organized by VP of Sales Kyle Petersen 💪 This time in SF, Kyle invited Senior Director Joel R. Leal to breakdown the secret behind telling a story with data 📊 Check out his simple framework called 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗗 (𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀, 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆)👇

    A couple of months ago, I shared that I kicked off a Sales Leadership Series for my team. 6 sessions. Each focused on a critical leadership skill. Why? Because most enablement is built for ICs. Meanwhile, managers and directors are left to figure it out. That’s wild considering the outsized impact leaders have. So we’re investing in the people who build the teams. Session 1, was focused on "Hiring" While we were together in SF, we ran Session 2. Focused on "Storytelling with Data" Led by Joel, who is exceptional at this! And the timing couldn’t be better. 6 months ago, getting the data was half the battle. Today? Data is everywhere. AI outputs, endless insights… But insight ≠ action The real differentiator now is being the leader who can: 👉 Apply necessary context 👉 Shape an accurate narrative 👉 Make it clear enough to action on Joel broke this down using a simple framework: PLAID 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲: What are we trying to say? Be brutally clear. 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀: Defining what actually moves the outcome? 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀: Why does this matter? Prove it. 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Specifying needs & rationalizing action plan 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆: Extreme clarity on who, what, when, and how. Simple. Not easy. Because if you’re not careful, AI will happily generate a story for you. One that sounds right, but misses nuance, context—or worse, is just wrong. One tip from Joel that really stuck with me was the idea of using PLAID as a pressure test, not just a framework. It’s not uncommon to start with a strong opinion, and by the time you work through each step, realize the idea isn’t worth pursuing. That’s the point. Insights are everywhere now. Leaders need cut through the noise. Find what matters. Then tell an accurate story that can be actioned on. Side note, am I the only one who loves using Gemini to add in missing teammates to a picture!? It's always entertaining to see how they turn out based on a simple headshot.

    We've been using Rippling's AI for a few weeks now, and as a lean People team, this is a game changer. It's not just the time back, it's also the cognitive capacity that's freed up for uniquely human investment. Reports that might have taken an afternoon to build are now complete in a few minutes. My brain has the space to ask different and deeper questions now. This is the kind of tool to enable People teams to move beyond admin and support to true partners and strategic leaders. We were already Rippling fans, but this has taken our fandom to a new level.
