Whilst #Samsung may have moved to No. 2 position in smartphones in India also seeing a drop in their market share by volume, they seem to be doing well in the TV business competing with brands like #Sony, #LG, #TCL, #Panasonic, and #Haier in India’s dynamic TV market. Samsung did ₹10,000 crore+ in TV sales for 2024, a year which was difficult with the overall sales declining by 10% to 11 million units. Their plans for 2025 are aggressive aiming at a double-digit growth with a 33% share in 2025. This is when the market is expected to grow in low single digits. Reasons- Weak consumer sentiment, slower replacement cycles, and economic challenges. Samsung’s strategy for high growth and one third market share is woven around: 1. expanding its lineup of large-screen TVs. With 55-inch becoming mainstream bringing in 75 inches, 100-inch and 115-inch models. Samsung led the market with 9% growth in shipments, bouyed by its premium range and stronger offline sales. 2. making advanced features like Vision AI technology in their new line up, more accessible to consumers. The technology makes TVs smarter, more intuitive, and personalized. The AI optimizes picture and sound quality in real time, adapting to both the content and the room’s surroundings. It also customizes content recommendations and settings based on user preferences. Another feature is the Universal Gesture Control, which allows users to control the TV with simple hand gestures, using AI and a connected Galaxy Watch—eliminating the need for a remote. 3. Focusing on premiumisation and therefore value rather than volume with its 2025 range which includes Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, OLED, and The Frame models, priced from ₹49,490 up to ₹11 lakh. 4. Focusing on Tier 2 and 3 cities. Market Trends The shift towards bigger screens continued in 2025 with 55-inch and larger TVs growing about 12% YoY. 2025 may bring some cheer to the industry with a modest growth in single digits. The second half of 2024 would be better due to the festive demand and more consumers upgrading to premium models. The ₹40,000–₹70,000 price range would be the key battleground. One can see a lot of similarities between smartphones and TV trends in terms of premiumisation, AI, and increasing contribution of Tower 2 and 3 cities. This would be applicable for all consumer electronic items as well it seems.
