Here’s how we’re building the team. (Checklist to build a winning sales team) Not just to hit numbers. But to handle the hard quarters — together. Because every company has good quarters. But very few build a team that can survive the bad ones. We’re not perfect. But here’s what we’re doing differently: 1. We train for ownership. If someone misses quota, the first thing we ask is: “What did we learn? What’s the new plan?” Not: “Why did this happen?” Not: “Who’s to blame?” Everyone’s expected to own outcomes — and be trusted to fix them. 2. We normalize pipeline honesty. We don’t let fake deals sit in our pipeline. We challenge each other early. “Is this the real buyer?” “Have they seen the offer?” “Is this stuck, and you just haven’t said it?” The goal isn’t more deals. It’s better decisions. 3. We share wins AND misses. The worst thing a team member can do? Go quiet when it’s not working. We encourage early signals, raise hands fast, and swap ideas constantly. We fix the system before it breaks. 4. We don’t hire robots. We hire thinkers. Our outreach isn’t copy-paste. It’s human-first, ICP-aware, adaptive. Every team member is trained to: Understand the buyer Spot what’s working Adjust copy weekly Track replies and learn from the inbox We don’t want hands. We want minds. 5. We grow as a unit. We win together. We lose together. We learn together. That’s how we’ve kept high-ticket clients for 18+ months. That’s how one team handles multiple accounts — without burning out. That’s how we build trust at scale. We’re still building. Still refining. But this is the culture we’re proud of. And it’s working.

Leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking the questions no one else is thinking to ask. Leading a SaaS platform in the assessments space, I’ve come to value something more than velocity, more than product-market fit, and even more than innovation: clarity. In fast-moving teams, there's a subtle pressure to always “know.” Know the roadmap. Know the numbers. Know the next big bet. But real leadership shows up when you're willing to say: “What are we missing?” “Why now?” “Are we solving the right problem — or just the loudest one?” In assessment tech, where data often drives decisions, it's easy to over-index on what can be measured. But some of the most important calls I’ve made came from conversations, not dashboards. From listening, not asserting. From pausing, not pushing. So my advice to other leaders — especially in product-heavy, data-rich environments — is this: ✅ Stay curious longer than you're comfortable. ✅ Create space for slow thinking in a fast world. ✅ Trust your people enough to ask better, harder questions — and let them wrestle with the answers. I recently attended a meetup by IT Sales Community Ahmedabad Chapter, and it was a great experience. It brought together people from tech and sales to share ideas, learn from each other, and talk about what’s really happening in the industry. The sessions were full of practical tips and real conversations — not just theory. It was nice to connect with like-minded people and pick up some fresh ideas to take back to work. Had the privilege to listen to two wonderful speakers - Himani Kankaria and Amit Panchal. Before I share my takeaways from both sessions, I would like to extend by gratitude to Amit Kumar Trivedi, Utpal Betai for arranging this session and ViitorCloud Technologies for extending their support by providing their office as the venue for this event. Now, coming back to my takeaways, some of the points are interpretations by reading between the lines and it may or may not resonate with others who attended the event ✴️ Session 1: Himani Kankaria ✅ Companies adopting technology and AI are driving real change; building an internal AI practice can enhance operations and client services. ✅ True branding builds trust from within; it is more important than relying on celebrity endorsements. ✅ A combined approach of targeting both CXOs and mid-level professionals is more effective, based on the organization's goals. ✅ Focused, expert content (#thoughtleadership) helps build credibility and cuts through the noise in competitive markets. ✅ Align communication across all teams, ensure content drives action, choose platforms strategically, personalize appropriately, and monitor data trends regularly. ------------ ✴️ Session 2: Amit Panchal ✅ Every post should be intentional — random or careless content can hurt your brand. ✅ Focus on strong keywords, good page mapping, user experience, and keep an eye on Core Web Vitals. ✅ More impressions help, but it's better to attract fewer, highly relevant visitors than random traffic. ✅ Guide visitors smartly with pillar pages and use tools like Gumloop to stay connected through newsletters. ✅ Collect genuine client reviews on platforms like Clutch and SoftwareSuggest, and ensure your content reflects the real value you deliver. It was truly an insightful session with live examples that were discussed. I guess such sessions do bring out the true sense of a community-driven event, the purpose of which is to grow together. A common belief in SaaS/Tech/Software sales is that lead generation isn’t a closer’s responsibility—that marketing should fill the pipeline while sales just focus on closing. But at our recent SaaS Collective - Middle East meetup in Dubai, Kunwar Keshav SVP of Sales at Capillary Technologies shattered this myth. He broke down an ideal sales pipeline structure that every SaaS salesperson needs to adopt: 🔹 50% Self-Generated Leads – The best closers actively prospect and build their own pipeline. 🔹 30% Marketing-Generated Leads – Marketing supports, but it’s not the primary source. 🔹 20% Other Sources – Referrals, partnerships, Events and inbound interest. This is a mindset shift many in Tech/software sales need to make. If you want to fast-track your career from AE to VP, you have to own your pipeline, create opportunities, and stop waiting for leads to come to you. Beyond this, here are more key takeaways from our session: 📌 Sales leadership is more than closing deals – It’s about aligning teams, directing efforts, and driving long-term success. 📌 The transition to leadership is a choice, not just a promotion – You need to shift from executing deals to building and enabling teams. 📌 Even at the VP level, prospecting doesn’t stop – Keshav still spends 2 hours a day on prospecting because your network is your team’s biggest asset. What stood out the most? The energy in the room. Being surrounded by like-minded SaaS professionals who are committed to learning and growing is invaluable. Many times, we sell, but do we sell what we truly intend to offer? Understanding the core essence and aligning it with the right customer profile can enhance sales efficiency and effectiveness. This critical step is often where many of us falter. Consider asking yourself: - Am I selling an experience or a product? - Am I selling a solution or technology? - Am I selling a cuisine or authentic taste? - And more... BANT (Budget, Authority, Need, Timeline) sales methodology should be replaced by RANT (Revenue, Authority, Need, Timeline) #Sales should stop trying to discover the customer's budget and start discovering the revenue impact the product creates. If it can create a real revenue impact and if there is a real need, then there is a budget that can be created from the revenue itself.
