Hello, I have a problem with the default GiveWP – Donation Form widget that I used for adding the form on the page. After the latest 4.7.0 update it is not displayed on the back-end in the Elementor editor: https://prnt.sc/7krIQCLzpVe8

When using the 4.6.1 version it is displayed correctly: https://prnt.sc/gUnoyYxPwLvy

As I can see from your changelog, you have added new Elementor widgets, but I cannot see them available here: https://prnt.sc/RAubP3ePPF2q

If I search for them manually, I can see that there is another widget – GiveWP Donation Form widget https://prnt.sc/UzkjoHu9XcVg for adding the form, and it is displayed on the backend: https://prnt.sc/a430uKLz38Hs

    Could you please clarify:

    1. If the default widget I used to use is considered to be obsolete and won’t function correctly anymore? Should I change all forms on all website to be displayed by the new widgets?
    2. How do I find the new widgets in the Elementor widget panel? Do I need to search for them manually?

Thank you for your help, have a nice day!

    Hi @juliarrr ,

Glad you reached out! Happy to help.

If the default widget I used to use is considered to be obsolete and won’t function correctly anymore? Should I change all forms on all website to be displayed by the new widgets?

We are still supporting the legacy widgets so they can still be used. We do however encourage updating to the new ones as they are better positioned for future Elementor compatibility and GiveWP udpates.

How do I find the new widgets in the Elementor widget panel? Do I need to search for them manually?

I’ve investigated this and I found a bug wherein the GiveWP category only shows up when the GiveWP Donation Widgets for Elementor plugin is also installed and activated. You can find the bug report here — https://givewp.featureos.app/p/the-section-for-the-elementor-donation-widgets-in-the-elementor-page-builder-should-not-be-dependent-on-the-donation-widgets-for-elementor-plugin.

I don’t have a timeline for it, but I’ve already mentioned this to our developers to be corrected.

That said, the main workaround is to search for them for now.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

    I’m always happy to help!

    Hello,

    Thank you for the information!

Could you also let me know if the GiveWP – Donation Form widget displaying will be fixed on the back end in the Elementor editor https://prnt.sc/7krIQCLzpVe8 ? Is this a known bug, or should it be reported?

It was displayed correctly before the 4.7.0 update.

Thanks a lot for you help!

    Hello @juliarrr ,

Ginger here jumping in to share that our 4.7.1 update that was released today had two fixes specifically for the new Elementor features previously released.

Before taking any steps for updating, I highly recommend taking a good backup of the site you can confidently restore from. Having a backup of your site is essential to a solid workflow, and will allow you to restore to a previous version of the site if you run into any issues. You can read more about our top recommendations for taking a backup here: https://givewp.com/backup-for-faster-troubleshooting/.

After that, please navigate to Plugins >> Installed Plugins in your WordPress admin, locate the Give – Donation Plugin plugin in the list of installed plugins. An update should show as available since our latest version is 4.7.1, so you’ll want to click on Update Now.

Let us know how things go when you’ve had a chance to some quick tests! 🙂

Hello Ginger, thank you for the update!

I can see the new Give widgets now: https://prnt.sc/9o4t-Ks_dTWU

Unfortunately, I still cannot see the form preview on the backend: https://prnt.sc/Rcy7mFUCmllD using the GiveWP – Donation Form widget.

As I wrote before, it was displayed correctly before the 4.7.0 update https://prnt.sc/gUnoyYxPwLvy . Can it also be fixed, please?

    Hi @juliarrr,

I’m not able to reproduce this on my test site. I also see in your screenshots that the settings apply to the old legacy and option-based donation forms, even though your form is in the newer, visual builder format. Do you perhaps have the GiveWP Donation Widgets for Elementor plugin still active? If so, please deactivate it, clear ALL caching completely, and then check your page to see if the GiveWP – Donation Form widget settings have changed on the left, and your donation form appears on the right.

Here is how that looks on my test site for reference:

Hello again, thanks for your reply!

However, we are talking about the different widgets.

The problem is with the widget GiveWP – Donation Form https://prnt.sc/rFFm40mElEJA , the WordPress widget that was available for years and which I use to use on my websites. It became undisplayed on the backend after the 4.7.0 update. This problem can be reproduced on the Hello Elementor WordPress theme with the only 2 plugins active – Elementor and Give.

And you are providing screenshots with the new widget GiveWP Donation Form, which was added after the 4.7.0 update.

My question in the beginning of the request was: If the default widget I used to use is considered to be obsolete and won’t function correctly anymore? Should I change all forms on all website to be displayed by the new widgets?

And Robin Joshua Del Mundo from Give plugin support replied, that “We are still supporting the legacy widgets so they can still be used.” So I asked you to fix its displaying as it is still supported. Thank you!

    Hello @juliarrr ,

Thanks for the feedback! The challenge on our end is not being able to reproduce what you are sharing with us thus far in your screenshots. To answer your question definitively regarding the legacy widgets on your donation forms, we’ll need more information about your setup so we can compare apples to apples. 🙂

To do this, navigate to GiveWP > Tools > System Info (tab), click the button to Get System Report and copy/paste ALL of the text in your reply to us here.  This is a (silent) screen video showing you were to find this information in your WordPress admin: https://www.loom.com/share/28139090d53c4fb5a26ea11dd04d0227

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi @juliarrr ,

Thanks for the new info and screenshots. That screenshot finally gave me a lightbulb moment 🙂 I was wondering why the WordPress logo was part of the widget. That section of widgets in your screenshots is the old WordPress widgets that Elementor basically included with it’s own Elementor “wrapper” if that makes sense. It contains an old GiveWP – Donation Form widget from many years ago. That also explains the widget’s form settings in your screenshot only apply to the older donation forms.

So long story short, yes, you will need to replace that old WordPress widget with the donation form widget in the GiveWP elements section. And, since you’re having to replace it, I would recommend to use the latest GiveWP widgets that now come with the core GiveWP plugin, and remove the old GiveWP – Elementor plugin since its no longer needed.

Thanks for sticking with us and providing great info while we sorted this out! Let me know if you have further questions we can assist with, and have a great weekend :-).

Hello, thank you for your reply.

Just to clarify, I have never used any “GiveWP – Elementor” plugin. My websites have only ever used the Elementor plugin together with the Give plugin. From the very beginning, my question was specifically about the GiveWP – Donation Form widget, which, as you mentioned, has been available for many years (and was the only widget available). I have used it on dozens of websites.

Now, after the 4.7.0 update, I am forced to switch to the new widget you introduced and manually edit all of these websites. This was exactly the issue I asked about and hoped could be resolved.

From your reply, I understand that this will not be fixed, and that the update has simply made this widget unusable. While this is very inconvenient for me, I appreciate your clarification and now know that nothing else can be done.

Thank you for confirming this, and have a nice weekend.

Hi. I have connected my paypal to my givewp plugin and it’s connected but I dont see the paypal option in the frontend form. Please help
