Key benefits of an IPv6 VPS

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the latest standard for assigning IP addresses. With a larger address pool and enhanced security and performance features, IPv6 improves scalability and reliability for websites and applications.

IPv6 ensures your VPS can handle the growing demands of a connected internet with improved efficiency and scalability.

Improved security

Built-in features like IPsec provide stronger encryption and authentication for secure communication.

Faster connections

Simplified packet processing and direct routing reduce latency and improve response times.

Future-proofing

As more networks adopt IPv6, your VPS remains compatible and ready for modern connectivity standards.

Easier management

Features like auto-configuration streamline setup and maintenance, reducing admin overhead.

VPS migration support

Interested in upgrading to IPv6, but your hosting provider doesn’t offer it?

Moving your website to a Liquid Web IPv6 VPS is easy. Our migration team follows a systematic process to ensure a smooth transition. Plus, if you choose a managed VPS plan, your migration is free.

IPv6 FAQ

Yes! To request an IPv6 address, simply open a support ticket. Our networking specialists will need to assign you an IPv6 address and then communicate that assignment to you, so the ticket makes that easier.

Once we receive your request, our support team will fulfill the request and update you as soon as possible.

Our IP Checker tool will show you your IP address in just one click.

IPv4 vs IPv6 is about different IP addressing systems.

  • IPv4 was launched in 1981, using 32-bit addresses with periods to separate groups of digits. The 32-bit model limits the number of possible addresses to about 4.3 billion combinations. That’s a lot, but the internet is actually starting to run low.
  • IPv6 was launched in 1998 to address the shortage. It uses 128-bit addresses, which allows for 340 undecillion combinations.

The transition to IPv6 has been gradual, of course. Most internet traffic still relies on IPv4, but IPv6 usage continues to increase as the internet expands.

When you sign up for hosting services, the provider assigns an IP address to your account. The type of hosting you choose can affect how your IP is managed.

VPS hosting assigns each account with dedicated resources, unlike shared hosting which uses a more fluid allocation of server resources. That means a VPS usually includes a unique IP address, whereas multiple shared hosting clients use the same IP.
