IPv4 vs IPv6 is about different IP addressing systems.

IPv4 was launched in 1981, using 32-bit addresses with periods to separate groups of digits. The 32-bit model limits the number of possible addresses to about 4.3 billion combinations. That’s a lot, but the internet is actually starting to run low.
IPv6 was launched in 1998 to address the shortage. It uses 128-bit addresses, which allows for 340 undecillion combinations.
