Nicolas Cage has insisted just one season of Spider-Noir is “perfect” after Amazon canceled the Prime Video show.
Spider-Noir sees Cage play Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator and the city's sole super-powered vigilante in 1930s New York City during the Prohibition Era. Season 1 debuted on MGM+ on May 25, 2026, followed by a global release on Prime Video two days later. You can watch Spider-Noir in both black and white, and in color.
IGN's Spider-Noir review returned an 8/10. "Nicolas Cage’s Bogie-meets-Bugs Bunny pulp hero invigorates the highly entertaining, genre-bending Spider-Noir," we said.
As reported by Deadline, Spider-Noir saw a strong start in terms of viewing minutes, but it fell away soon after launch and dropped out of Prime Video’s top 10 chart. This, coupled with the high cost associated with producing the show, apparently contributed to Amazon’s decision to give it the chop.
In a statement issued to Deadline, Cage sounded philosophical about Spider-Noir coming to an end after just one season.
“For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man,” Cage said. “Onwards, upwards, inwards.”
Spider-Noir was part of a multi-title deal between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television based on IP from Sony's slate of Marvel characters. Spider-Man spinoff Silk, which was part of this deal, was canceled just days after Spider-Noir was greenlit. According to Deadline, Spider-Noir’s cancelation hasn’t put an end to the deal, and multiple projects are in development.
