EFF is sounding the alarm, and this is a big one. I can’t over-state the stakes here, and the fact that it is getting very little coverage is really fucked up:

Within the next week, Congress is preparing to vote on the KIDS Act, a sprawling package of legislation that seeks to control Americans’ web browsing and private messaging. The package includes a revised version of the Kids Online Safety Act, or KOSA, combined with a collection of other internet bills, study bills, reporting requirements, and new regulations. Instead of debating any of these proposals on their merits, lawmakers are attempting to move them all at once under an ultra-expedited process.

This is a 5-alarm fire. If you want to be able to use the internet without handing over your passport or ID to every website, or if you run a website and don’t want to collect that information from your users, you need to fight this thing.

The repetition on these stories sure is getting tedious, isn’t it?

Gosh, wonder where they go that idea? Oh, and it gets worse. They’ve only hired the experienced professionals back so they can train the AI to take their jobs. Ghoulish shit.

Poon reportedly pointed to automated tools lacking the training and expertise of veteran technicians – many of whom he said had left the company before their knowledge could be used to improve its tech.

He said these human workers had since been reintroduced to train up its systems, as well as mentor younger workers.

“We recognised that for us to enhance some of our automation and machine learning and artificial intelligence tools we needed to ensure that they were trained by the most experienced individuals,” he said, per Bloomberg.

Which you will then fire, again, once you think the AI has sucked up all their usefulness, again. Then probably re-hire a few of them, again, etc.
