I used Formidable Forms Pro for a client-facing site and built working forms with Pro fields, including sections. When my license expired, those existing forms became partially uneditable. Not “no new features” – I lost the ability to edit what I had already built and paid for.

To be fair: front-end forms keep submitting, and the knowledge base does state you lose access to Pro features while expired. So this is technically documented.

My problem is where it’s documented. The pricing page – the page you actually read before buying – says renewal is required for continued access to support, plugin updates, and new add-ons. Nothing about losing the ability to edit forms you already made. Two different messages in two places, and the softer one sits where the purchase decision happens.

I understand paying for updates and support. That’s normal and fair. Locking editing access to work already completed under a valid license is a different thing, and it should be stated plainly on the pricing page rather than buried in a FAQ.

Practical consequences for me: I won’t be renewing, I’ve stopped recommending the plugin to clients, and I’m migrating existing sites to an alternative. The plugin itself is capable and well built – that’s what makes this policy frustrating rather than merely disappointing.

If you’re evaluating Formidable, budget for permanent yearly renewal, not a one-time purchase. Whatever you build, you keep the ability to run it, not to change it.

After years trying different form creation tools, I’ve finally found one that does everything it says, and everything I need and more. There are plenty of tutorials, and their support team are excellent. I’ve logged 2 calls so far, and both issues were addressed the same day.

I highly recommend paying for the subscription. The suport alone is worth it. The addons you get extend simple form creation to the level of online apps with automated payment systems, email notifications, invoicing, reporting, and so much more.

There’s a bit of a learning curve, but you have to expect that with a tool as flexible as Formidable Forms. As I mentioned, there’s plenty of help available.
