Weekly brief

Latest brief issues

Aug 20, 2026
Claude Code August 20: v2.1.237 Adds a Built-in Concise Output Style, the Files and Skills APIs Go GA, and the 50 Percent Weekly Limit Boost Runs to August 31
  • Ten Claude Code releases landed since the last issue, running from v2.1.227 to v2.1.237.
  • The headline changes are a built-in Concise output style that skips preamble, a new ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_MODEL environment variable that sets the model new sessions start on, and notify_when_idle on cross-session SendMessage.
  • On the API side the Files and Skills APIs reached general availability alongside computer use and browser use toolsets.
  • Two security items deserve attention: macOS sandbox wildcard read-deny rules such as **/.env now take precedence inside allowed read regions and cannot be bypassed by renaming, and the Vertex and Bedrock SDKs were patched so ambient first-party credentials are never sent to provider endpoints.
Aug 20, 2026
OpenAI Codex August 20: Codex CLI 0.148.0 Ships /export and codex exec fork, Codex Crosses 15 Million Users, and Paid Usage Resets Reach $80 on the $200 Pro Plan
  • Codex CLI 0.148.0 is the substantive release of the period.
  • It adds /export to send a full TUI conversation to Markdown or the clipboard, codex exec fork plus archive and restore from the resume picker, estimated thread credits and cost in /status, Amazon Bedrock Runtime as a built-in provider with GPT-5.6 routing, and asynchronous hooks that can call MCP tools.
  • Sandbox restrictions now fail closed for denied or unreadable paths on Linux and Windows.
  • Off the CLI, Codex crossed 15 million users, the desktop app reached Linux for Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora, and an import path now pulls projects, chats, skills and plugins in from other agents.
Aug 20, 2026
Cursor AI August 20: the $60 Billion SpaceX Acquisition Closes, Origin Code Hosting Enters Beta, and Cloud Agents Get /goal and PR Subscriptions
  • The SpaceX acquisition of Cursor closed on August 14 at $60 billion, and the Cursor team has joined SpaceXAI to work on Grok Build, Grok Bot and the Grok API.
  • Cursor also acquired Firetiger the day before.
  • Reporting ahead of the close suggested the Cursor brand may eventually be phased out.
  • Product work did not pause: Origin code hosting entered early beta on August 17, putting hosted repositories, pull requests and agents in one place, and its launch coincided with a roughly six hour forty minute GitHub outage.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Skillselion?

An automatically updated directory of skills, MCP servers and marketplaces for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other coding agents - ranked by real installs. It doubles as a research organization: Skillselion Research publishes dated censuses and open datasets measuring the ecosystem itself.

Does Skillselion publish research?

Yes - that is what separates it from a plain directory. Skillselion Research runs ongoing censuses of the agent ecosystem (security audit coverage, verified copies, install-weighted use cases, code maintenance) plus an always-current statistics reference. Every edition is frozen on publication, free to cite with attribution, and ships its raw dataset as CSV. How the numbers are made is at /research/methodology.

How are listings chosen?

Automatically updated and ranked by real adoption - we track installs and GitHub stars across Anthropic, OpenAI and Cursor tools so you find and compare what is actually used.

Does it cost anything?

No. Browsing, search and the brief are free.

Is Skillselion affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI or Cursor?

No. Independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by any tool maker.

Do I need an account?

No - everything here is free to browse without one.

Do you check listings for security?

Not ourselves. Listings surface third-party audit verdicts (Socket, Snyk and other skills.sh auditors) where they exist - outside signals we pass through, not a scan we run and not a safety guarantee. Our Agent Skill Security Census measures that coverage across the whole ecosystem: 87.8% of listings have never been audited by anyone. Review a tool before you install it.

How do I report an inaccurate listing or suggest a tool?

Send us a note through the Feedback page. We read every message - whether it’s a stale entry to fix or a tool we should add. The directory is updated automatically and ranked by real installs.
