FAQ
Hackathons are free, weekend-long events where individuals and teams can build software and hardware projects. We will have catered food, free merch, industry professionals to network with, and technical workshops for learning specific tools or skills.
At a hackathon, “hacking” just means building coding projects. We call our participants “hackers” and our projects “hacks”, but we aren’t actually breaking into anything. You can join our CTF if you want to engage in more stereotypical hacker activities (legally, of course).
Not at all! Beginners are welcome, and there’s a beginners prize track so you still have a chance to win.
Tracks are categories you can submit your project to. Tracks from previous years include art & expression, education & learning, AI & machine learning, fun & games, and more! Some tracks are sponsored by companies and are based on solving specific problems or using certain tools.
&hacks is completely free! We provide food, merch, and networking opportunities, and there’s no cost to apply.
No problem, you can join the Discord to find a team, come to our team-building workshop, or hack solo!
If you don’t want to, no worries! You can always work on your project afterwards, or you can just enjoy the fun activities (and free food).
Yes, please just be honest about how much you did during the hackathon.
Yes! We encourage hackers to use generative AI tools for their projects. The limit is your imagination!
We expect all participants and volunteers to follow the MLH Code of Conduct. We aim to provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment or abuse of any kind.
Unfortunately, minors are not permitted. We hope to see you at one of our future hackathons!
