Amaira Tayal

Changemaker of the Month

We teach kids about the world, but rarely about how their own brain works, a gap Amaira set out to close. Recognising that teenagers, especially in low income communities, face daily stress with little guidance on emotional regulation, she designed a board game featuring a Brain Map and Challenge Cards to make neuroscience and self care accessible and engaging.

  • She took it furtherRunning hands-on workshops with Shakti Foundation and Children’s Hope India, bringing the game directly to the teens who needed it most
  • What changedA subject often seen as complex or clinical became something teenagers could understand, relate to and actually use

Archita

Walkability Audit

Archita set out to close a gap most cities never think to address: streets built to move vehicles, but rarely built for the people walking through them. Recognising that women and girls face daily barriers just navigating their own streets, she designed a ground-level walkability audit to see the city through the eyes of those who walk it every day.

  • What she documentedA street-by-street audit across her neighbourhood, recording blocked footpaths, poor lighting, narrow vehicle-dominated lanes and missing crossings
  • What changedA problem long felt but rarely proven became something documented, visible and impossible to ignore

A cause someone else assigned
A problem you chose to work on

A documented impact report with your name on it
A generic recommendation letter
A mentor-authored Letter of Recommendation
The same story as every other applicant
A university story admissions officers haven't heard
